Error installing exchange 2010 in child domain

    Question

  • I am getting the following error when installing exchange 2010 in a child domain, the install is failing to add the exchange server in child domain to the "exchange servers" and "exchange trusted sub system" in the root domain

Used domain controller dc1.child.domain.com to write object CN=Exchange Install Domain Servers,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=child,DC=domain,DC=com.
[08/17/2010 11:17:15.0275] [2] [WARNING] Couldn't add CN=Exchange Servers,OU=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups,DC=domain,DC=com to the membership of CN=EXCHANGEHTCAS1,OU=Servers,DC=child,DC=domain,DC=com: Active Directory operation failed on dc1.domain.com. This error is not retriable. Additional information: The specified group type is invalid.
    Active directory response: 00002141: SvcErr: DSID-031A0FC0, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0

Any idea what is causing this?

  • yes I have retried setup many times. I am also running the exchange install with the root domain admin account which is also a member root group "organization management".

I have manually added the server to the required groupd and am running setup again in this moment

  • The odd thing is I did get this error on another hub/cas server and it eventually installed. I dont think I changed anything since. I have also tried to install mailbox role now on same box and getting same error so must be permissions somewhere on the installation user

  • Where are the dc1.child.domain.com, dc1.domain.com and root-dc3.nci.col?

So, you got the error “remote procedure call failed with 0x800706be” during the reinstallation, how about the error messages in the initial post? This happened when you used the account with enterprise/schema admin group permissions, right?

Is there any further error trace in the installation log?

Is it the second exchange 2010 server that you tried to install? On the first installed exchange server, can you run ExBPA to do a permission check

    Install Exchange Server 2010
