Mailbox moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. Message search no longer works for this user

    Pertanyaan

  • I moved a user mailbox from Exchange 2003 to 2010.  Now that user is on Exchange 2010, he is unable to utilize the message search feature both in Outlook 2010 and also OWA.  Only results from the current day are returned.

  • How long ago did you move the mailbox?

You could always stop the index service on the server, delete the search catalog for the store on disk and restart the index service to recrawl the store and give it some time to complete.

  • Hi

If you remove any filters and select "show all mail items" does it display correctly?

Have you checked that indexing has completed? (Search Tools | Indexing Status)

If it has and you are still not finding anything, try rebuilding the index.

(Search Tools | Search Options | Indexing Options | Advanced)

  • i checked all of the above.  No filters applied; indexing was completed; and I rebuilt the index.

However, I would assume that none of the above affects search functionality in OWA, correct?  The user still has the issue in OWA, in addition to Outlook 2010

  • when running the search are you searching on the inbox only or all mail items?

  • I have ran searches using both parameters

  • Can you check if the mailbox does not have corrupted items in?

  • i did run new-mailboxrepairrequest to see if there were corrupted items in the mailbox search folders.  Event logs merely showed that the cmdlet did run.  event logs did not note that any problems were found

  • the mailbox was moved just two days ago.  would I do this via running the cmdlet ResetSearchIndex.ps1 -force -all?

I believe that still works yes ( that was a originally a 2007 script) or just stop the index service, delete the catalog on disk and restart the service.

  • do you know the general location of the catalogs?

  • do you know the general location of the catalogs?

Same directory as the store itself  CatalogData with the GUID is the directory name

  • OK. Stopped the Exchange indexing service, deleted the catalog files, and restarted the service.  Event logs indicate that a new crawl has been initiated; master merge completed.  We will see on Monday if this resolved the issue for the one problem mailbox when the user returns to work.

  • Hi jzhemp,

Any updates? Does it work now?

Only one user has the problem? How about other users(same database)?

Maybe you can try to move the mailbox to another Exchange 2010 database to test ago.
