Exchange 2007 x32 to Exchange 2010 x64 remote migration

    Întrebare

  • I'm trying to migrate my exchange 2007 over to a NEW server in a remote location that's running exchange 2010. It's a matter of two different datacenters. I've looked through several tutorials, etc online and i've gotten stuck many times. For instance, http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000236.htm - i got stuck at step 4.3. The remote server wont show up, and i've tried a vpn... I was wondering if someone knows something that would help me out here. Let me know if you need more details.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

First of all, Exchange 2007 x86 is not supported in production modes – FYI.

Secondly, if the Exc2K7 and 2K10 aren’t in the same forest/domain try to import the mailboxes to PST, you can refer to this process from these articles: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629586%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx

    http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/04/13/437745.aspx

    Beside this:

    1.       Does the Exc2K7 & 2K10 in the same domain? If the answer is yes, check that the DNS records on the DNS existing for both servers.

    2.       Try to perform remote desktop connection to the 2K7 server from the 2K10, is that work? If yes, move to step 3. If not, check the network devices between the servers (check routes, access between vlans, etc)

    3.       Try to reach the Exc2K7 from the 2K10 using Move Requests.

  • Thanks for the guidance so far! I'm about half way there now, I've gotten all of the mailboxes exported into pst files. I've moved them to the new server. When I attempt to import a pst file to an account, I get this error:

    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>import-mailbox

The term 'import-mailbox' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check

the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

    At line:1 char:15

    + import-mailbox <<<<

        + CategoryInfo          : ObjectNotFound: (import-mailbox:String) [], CommandNotFoundException

        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException

    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>

Microsoft Outlook 2010 x64 is installed.

    Thanks!

  • You're using Exchange Management Shell? It's look like you're using the "regular" Powershell...

  • It is the Exchange powershell, it has the orange exchange icon..

I found that I could use this command instead:

    New-MailboxImportRequest -FilePath \\localhost\pst\file.pst -Mailbox <mailbox>

    It's running now.

  • Hi ZTecWiz,

Do you finish the migration now? Any updates?
