Error installing the scan engine on Microsoft Forefront For Exchange

    Frage

  • Hi Partners, I make the first installation of Microsoft Forefront For Exchange on a Server with Windows 2003 64Edition with SP2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

When I run the Engine Updates, all work fine, but the Microsoft Antimalware Engine and the Norman Virus Control have problems to install the update. They make the download without problems, but on the install step, send errors like this.

I try to fix the error granted Write permissions to the account NetworkService on C:\WindowsTemp

But I’m still receiving the same error.

Somebody know how to fix this.

  • - Open Windows Explorer and browse into the \Program Files (x86)\ Microsoft Forefront Security \ Exchange Server folder properties and add "NETWORK SERVICE" with FULL CONTROL

    - Apply the same security permission settings within the registry:  HKeyLocalMachine - Software - Wow6432Node - Microsoft - Forefront Server Security

    -  In windows explorer, Browse into the \Program Files (x86)\ Microsoft Forefront Security \ Exchange Server \ Data \ Engines \ x86 \ and rename the Norman folder to NormanOld and rename the Microsoft folder to MicrosoftOld and attempt to run a manual update

  • This helped me, after I located where the engines were kept on my server. The installation of Forefront and Exchange Server had been done on one partition and the Engines and Quarantine had been redirected to another partition. So I had to establish the "NETWORK SERVICE" with FULL CONTROL permission on that other partition as well. After that the engines installed.
