Collaboration features not working

    Question

  • Hi,

We have the TMG firewall which we use to both cache as well as control access to our Sharepoint environment on our LAN.  We have an issue when accessing SharePoint through TMG. We are able to access the sites, but any of the features related to collaboration (e.g. check in/out documents...) does not seem to work.  Is this a result of the TMG configuration, TMG itself not supporting collaboration features?  Given the need for this feature should we be considering the switch to UAG and will this resolve the problem?

Any assistance on this matter would be appreciated...

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

“but any of the features related to collaboration (e.g. check in/out documents...) does not seem to work.” – would you please elaborate this issue? what is TMG live logging tell? And do you receive any error message?

“Given the need for this feature should we be considering the switch to UAG and will this resolve the problem?” - UAG has been identified as the product that is focused on publishing Exchange/SharePoint. TMG is focused on being a secure web gateway.

  • Hi,

Sorry for being vague...I just got the details from the project team...

    1. The problem is when editing a document property, we get a security warning when accessing a field that pulls from the term store and certain fields are blank.

    2. Editing a document, during the check out we get "This document could not be checked out. You may not have permissions to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user".

If we go directly to the site from inside our network, all works fine. If we go from the outside of the network, through TMG, these problems occur.

Starting to sound like we need to buy UAG!

    Thanks
