Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2010 on a physical or VM server?

    Question

  • Hi There,
I currently have a Virtual VMware network in a college which also has 1 Physical server running ISA 2006 which i use to protect all internal servers & 1 Physical server running TMG which is used a default gateway for all staff & students.
I want to start using Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) and was wondering if this would be better installed on a VM server 2008 R2, or would a physical server be the preferred option. I just need some advice Pro's & Cons  if possible, many Thanks in advance!!

If Physical server is the preferred option can i install this on server 2012?

    Kindest regards.

  • Hi,

Forefront UAG 2010 only run on Windows Server 2008 R2 plateform. There is no problem to run UAG Inside a virtual machine operating on a virtualization host. The only tricky thing is when you deploy UAG 2010 in array deployment scenario with Network Load Balancing on ESX hosts.
