FEP 2010 RC - installation - Last requisite fails

    Вопрос

  • Hi,

I have been testing FEP2010 Beta and want to test FEP2010 RC.

Uninstalled FEP2010 Beta, deleted FEP DB on SQL Server after the backup,  when running installation for FEP2010 RC, the last prereq - "An earlier software installation has outstanding file rename operations pending. Before Setup can continue, you must restart the computer"  I have already done so, still the same... any suggestions??

    Thanks

    Dilip

  • Hi,

Open the registry, go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, then remove the "PendingFileRenameOperations" key or just delete its content, and try again.

  • 1) installed successfully when selected Basic (SSRS on same server)

    2) while installing another with Basic with SSRS on another server failed.  Checked installation logs and it failed on Server Extensions. Here from the logs

Just to check ran FEPEXT.msi alone and found it failed with error 1406, could not write Value SQMEnabled to the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Forefront\Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010\config... Check permissions etc....      Thinking of replacing FEPEXT.exe from other installation and then check... any ideas?? - thanks

  • The error 1603 can be related to a permission issue, so please see "Additional requirements" in this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff823830.aspx

  • Thanks Bechir, I have tried the " All Additional requirements" but still it is not working.  Is there a way I can turn on verbose logging and find out more in details rather than generic 1603 error?  Could this be because I have uninstalled FEP 2010 Beta and trying to install RC?  It fails only when FEPEXT MSI runs. Reasons for all these questions being this is my test environment and looking for a successful test run before going into production. I have a much larger environment in production. Thanks - Dilip

  • Hi,

Now FEP 2010 is RTM version, so you can download this version and try it.

  • It failed with RTM as well...

It's for sure permissions issue Bechir... the question is where... and what do I check

    Reasons for the above conclusion:

Tried using the old database created by Beta version, does not work.
    This option provided by Setup.

Backed up old dbs, renamed same and ran install again.
It did not create FEP databases, User has SA permissions to the SQL box and it runs through all the prereqs
The same user was used for installing beta version.. So, need to check why,... any and all help is really appreciated. --- Thanks Dilip

  • As the setup failed both with RC & RTM versions , Ran setup once again but this time with Beta version, Setup was successful but had a following SQL warning

Warning: Setup has detected that the connection to the SQL Server is not encrypted. If the SQL Server and  Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 are not located on a shared secure subnet, transmitted data can be viewed by third parties. We recommend that you secure the connection to the SQL Server. For more information, see Securing SQL Server in the SQL Server documentation.

Versions of ServerSetup.exe are as follows:

    Beta 2.0.375.0 7/14/2010  (139 KB)      RC 2.0.522.0   10/19/2010 (135 KB)    RTM 2.0.657.0 11/30/2010 (135 KB)

Does this explain something???  --- Thanks Dilip
