Extremely High RAM Usage during Manual Scan

    คำถาม

  • We recently upgraded our Forefront to SP3 in hopes of resolving a few memory issues.  Not only has it not resolved the issue it almost appears to have become worst.  The process FSSPController.exe is taking up ridiculous amounts of RAM (its a virtual farm environment if that matters).  While watching the manual scan work the process continues to eat up more and more memory.  The job was to state at 3:00am and when I came into work it was at 5.5g.  At NOON it has continued to grow to 6.2g.  The manual scan is the only time we are experiencing these issues.  Anyone have an answer on what this process is doing that it continues to grow and eat up more and more memory?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

According to the description, I think we could implement 2 changes in order to gain performance and to try to lower the memory consumption of the Forefront scanning processes:
    1) decreased the number of Realtime processes from 3 to 2 by changing following
    registry key:
    On 32-bit Systems: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Forefront Server Security\SharePoint\RealtimeProcessCount
    On 64-bit Systems: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Forefront Server Security\SharePoint\RealtimeProcessCount
    2) changed the scanning Bias for each scanjob from “Favor Certainty” to “Neutral”.

If the issue still retains, I would like to suggest that you contact Microsoft Product Support Services via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with this request.

  • Check to see if you have any File Level Anti-virus on the same server and place exclusions for the Sharepoint & Forefront folders.
