Antigen 9 SP1 - Spam Cure engine not updating
- Spam Cure has not updated for several days now, a problem that has occurred a few times since MS took on the software. I've rebuilt the Spam Cure engine folder and tried many manual updates, to no avail.
I'd like to know if there is anything else I can do, and if MS plan on increasing the resilience of the Antigen updating system. I never had this problem with Sybari Antigen.

- - Are you seeing any errors within the ProgramLog
- Attempt to increase the "EngineDownloadTimeout" registry key to provide more time to run the update from the following KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905991/en-us
- Add "Network Service" with Full Control to the NTFS permissions & Registry Permissions for the Antigen for Exchange Directory
- By Default, This folder is located in the following location: \Program Files\ Microsoft Antigen for Exchange
- Within the Registry: HKeyLocalMachine - Software - Sybari Software - Antigen for Exchange
- Please let me know the results...
John - Thanks for the reply.
I had already checked Event Viewer - each failed download generates a "Get Engine Files" error source, and associated timeout... message.
I have now done the registry and perm changes and, should the problem arise again, I will reply here. I've also noticed that my secondary download location is empty - is there anything I can enter here?
What puzzles me is that a failed update stops Spam Cure from working at all. Would it not be better for it to continue working with the old engine, and continue to attempt updates? It concerns me that a single failed update can result in dozens of users being flooded with hundreds of spam emails for several days.
- - Attempt to increase the "EngineDownloadTimeout" registry key to provide more time to run the update from the following KB since you mentioned there was a timeout issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905991/en-us
- The secondary download location is "BLANK" by default. Usually Users would apply a UNC path or vise-versa
- Once an engine fails to update, Usually the engine would be rolled back to It's previous definitions
