Answered Synchronizing on Client never shows as complete

    Hi,

I'm evaluating DPM 2010, running it on Server 2008 r2.  If I open the DPM client on a Windows 7 32 bit client and click on Sync Now then the Status changes from Idle to Synchronizing...  if I leave the client open then this never changes to Idle, even if I leave it for 20 minutes.  If I close the client and open it again then the Status shows as Idle and shows the Last Synchronization attempt as successful.  I know it has worked because if I create a Restore point on the server without Syncing first then new files are there.  Surely the window should update without having to close and re-open it?

    Thanks,

    Stephen

I just tried this with a WinXP client and once I clicked ton Sync now. the status changing to Synchronizing.

The job took 30 seconds to complete and the status just changed to idle about 6 minutes after.

Which DPM build are you running?

I am using DPM 3.0.7696.0 evaluation version.  I get the same result when using XP or Win 7 (32) SP1 as the client.  This is even when I am only syncing a few files.  I've tried leaving it for 60 minutes and it never updates to anything except Synchronizing... even though I can tell it is only taking about 30 seconds to complete - tested by closing and re-opening the DPM client Window,

    Hi Stephen,

    Thanks for the update.

Would it be possible for you to update DPM and client to build 3.0.7707.0 and check if this behavior changes?

    Hi,

I've upgraded the server and the clients and it seems OK now, (on the client the dpmagent.exe is still at the old version but the dpmclientservice.exe is now at 3.07707.0) and in the Management tab it shows as 3.07707.0 as well.  This has fixed the problem, they now take about 4 minutes to update and refresh the window correctly.

We are looking for a backup solution for laptops that will sync even when our users have them at home.  When I took a laptop home that worked here (yesterday with the old version) I couldn't get it to sync whether it was connected via our VPN or not.  Is this even possible?  If so could you point me to some documentation that explains what steps are necessary to make this work, I've had a search but can't find anything.

    Thanks for your help,

    Stephen

    Hi Stephen

Good to know this did work...

I'll set this thread as answered and could you open another thread with that question?

One thing we will need to know is about the firewall you have for VPN connection... it might just be blocking the needed ports....
