I want to apologize in advance for my poor English..

We have a problem with Excel Prof. plus 2010 running on a Windows 2008 R2 terminal server (All the latest patches and service packs are already installed).

When users use the option 'Send as attachment' and the mail has been send (and recieved by the recipient) the Excel sheet hangs. We have to kill the process on the server.

The internet is filled with this kind of problems but non of them give the right answer...

    Can anybody help me?

It does not look like there is an universal solution to this problem, so your users should be encouraged to attach files directly from your mail apps.

    Hi,

You can test if the issue is caused by the add-ins by disabling all the add-ins temporarily. See the following article:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/view-manage-and-install-add-ins-in-office-programs-HA010354315.aspx

thank you David and Rex for your answer...

@David If there's no universal solution to this problem and i'm not the only one having this problem. That sounds like a bug to me. Why didn't Microsoft fixed it by now.

@Rex I've already tried disabling all the add-ins. The problem remains.

Can this issue be reproduced if we start Excel in safe mode (Excel.exe /safe)?

Are these workbooks shared on network?

Does the Outlook seem to be crashing when the "Send as Attachment" is selected?

If so, check the following article:

    @REX

    - Yes, the Excel sheets are saved on a shared network
    - Only Excel hangs. Other applications are running normally

    Thanks for the information.

Does the issue occur on the Excel files in local drives?

Create a Excel file on desktop. Then open and attach it with "Send as Attachment".

Did you turn on the Share Workbook feature in these workbooks? If so, turn off the feature and see if the issue can be reproduced.

More information about Share Workbook feature:

    http://office.microsoft.com/client/helppreview14.aspx?AssetId=HP010342985&lcid=1033&NS=EXCEL&Version=14&tl=2&respos=0&CTT=1&queryid=58469b50%2Ded33%2D4604%2Da1ee%2D5e129c44e1b3

Which the method that users access the shared folders, UNC or Mapped driver? Please try accessing the shared server by IP address and then attach the files.

Try turning off the Anti-Virus temporarily to see if the attching has been blocked by it.

    Best regards,

Thanks Rex for your response....Really appreciate your help.

I'm wondering if this also can be a problem with roaming profiles..

I've created a test user (a copy of an excisting user). This user doesn't have this problem when I send a Excel sheet to a recipient using the same documents as the other users.

Maybe a corrupt file or something...

Sorry for not testing this earlier....

We may check the Outlook Secure Temporary File folder mentioned in the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817878
If the folder is corrupted, the attachments won’t be inserted correctly in Outlook.

    Sincerely
    Rex Zhang

This issue hasn't gone away...  in fact its carried over

I have Windows 8 Enterprise and Office 2013 pro. both x64 and my Excel hangs every time I send a worksheet by email using the File, share, email, send as attachment

frankly its a bloody disgrace that is has been ignored for so long.. Its hardly a semi used function.
