Users cannot sent mail to a SMTP address when the address is moved!

Senario:-
The User leaves and so the address is added to as a secondary address to ANother mailbox and the orginal mailbox is deleted. Users cannot send mail to the address with a NDR saying that the address cannot be found. Bizarre!

This is most probably because they are users within the same Exchange organisation. Internal mail is not delivered to the SMTP address as it uses the legacyExchangeDN instead. If you take this attribute and set it as an X500 proxy address on the other mailbox mail will be delivered there without the NDR.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense. Ive looked at several articles and goes on about using the Legacydn.exe tool. Ive downloaded it and had a look and to be fair ran a mile! Am I using the right tool for adding the x500 addy or is it all down to the above tool?
