Suggestion: Presence state when sharing your desktop
-
vendredi 5 mars 2010 16:43We have been using OCS for about a year now. I have a suggestion/enhancement that I think is needed in OCS. It could also help save some people's jobs.
OCS is great because it allows you to share your desktop on the fly while on a conference call. We use this all the time. The problem is that OCS just shows people as being "busy - In a Conference". This is the same state whether they are just on the phone or whether they are sharing their desktop.
I think you really should have a separate state with a different color, that denotes if someone is sharing their desktop with other people.
The problem is that someone could just start IMing the person that is sharing their desktop. The person that is IMing has no way of knowing if the person they are trying to chat with is sharing their desktop and with whom. So they type something embarrassing in or something that is confidential, and people that aren't supposed to see this information end up seeing it. This didn't happen to me specifically, but I've seen it happen.
I know people could manually change their state to Do Not Disturb, but most people don't. This seems like it would be a pretty simple thing and could save people's jobs if they type the wrong thing at the wrong time.

There isn't anyway to do this in normal configuration. You could try the developer forum and see if they can suggest some way of writing an application for setting Do Not Disturb automatically when in desktop sharing. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ucmanagedsdk/threads

Yeah.. I realize there isn't any way to do this in the current version. I was just presenting it as a possible enhancement for a future release.- Proposé comme réponse Gavin-ZhangModerator mercredi 10 mars 2010 06:04
