Proposed Gmail and Outlook 2010

I have no idea what I am doing wrong I keep getting sent a page that shows my settings in gmail and outlook but I continue to have the problem. I don't understand why I have to change settings. When I used a POP3 setting email would transfer into Outlook and stay there even if I deleted it off the (Yahoo) site. Now if I delete mail off of Gmail its gone. The work around is to open outlook with gmail inbox and move the email I want down to my "old" Outlook that I had with ATT. If I do that I can keep the email. It's very frustrating!

Sorry for my poor understanding. Do you mean that you often get the pop-up windows that change settings?

If we are talking about Email disappear after download the email via POP, please first read the article below to understand the different IMAP and POP
    http://support.google.com/mail/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=ts.cs&ts=1668960&rd=1

Now, please verify whether all of your account type are POP3. If yes, continue to check if you check the option “Leave a copy of messages on the server” from File > Account settings > highlight your Internet mail account and double click it > More settings.. > Advanced

Let me know the details. Feel free to post it back with any useful screenshot or error message. Thanks.

Tony I could really use your help I am willing to pay for your time. I want to change my Gmail settings to POP 3. That is not how my IT person (who is sick of hearing  from me lately) set it up. I have read the directions on how to change to POP 3 with Gmail and Outlook but I am afraid to change anything on Outlook.

The reason my IT people are sick of me is I purchased a Dell computer not even a year ago (actually 3 of them) the one I am using now I spent over $2000 on getting it repaired, when I complained to Dell both they and the IT person suggested I reformat my hard drive at an additional cost so they have been to my house alot. I just want my issues with gmail and Outlook to work correctly!

    Hello Jo,

You may read the following article to setup Gmail POP3 account in OL2010.

To avoid any mistake, I suggest we create a new outlook profile follow the article below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918

Note: A new profile is a new environment for us to use Outlook. To create a new profile is only for a test to see if the problem is related to the corrupt profile of Outlook. Creating new profile will not do any damage to the old profile.

If the problem does not exist in the new profile, you can refer to the import and export section in following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to move your data in the old profile to the new profile.

    Hope these help

    hI Tony,

I still have my Outlook is set to IMAP. With Imap if I load email into Outlook that goes into my Gmail inbox and I move it to another folder within Outlook but delete the email from Gmail on their website it disappears from Outlook. I have my old folders from my previous POP account so if I move the emails I want to save to those files they don't disappear. Will changing to POP 3 fix this or do you think my file is corrupted on Outlook? I never had these problems in all the years I have been online using Outlook with a POP 3 account.

    Thanks for your continued patience

    Jo

It sounds like to me you really prefer how Outlook previous versions and Gmail handle pst and email by using pop3 which is still an option by enabling pop in your gmail account here is link http://support.google.com/mail/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=ts.cs&ts=1668960&rd=1 then you want to configure Outlook 2010 for pop with settings in link here https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=86374

This is my current setup away from IMAP anyways and makes more practical sense IMHO.

Tony, My IT person was out and changed my settings to POP 3 and all was great until he tried to change the settings on my Blackberry so that I could get my email on my phone. The place that needed changing was grayed out so when I get a new phone I will have him come out and set up G mail both on my computer and my phone to a POP 3 account. What I have done to avoid losing emails is go to my old ATT UVERSE email account that is set up on Outlook and move mail to it then I don't lose my email.

Well. Pop3 will download the message item to local hard-disk in default when you open Outlook. Please set the option "leave a copy of messages on the server" if necessary. Thanks.
