Answered Printjob with wrong username from Outlook 2010

    Hello,

We have the problem in Outlook 2010 (on two workstations) when we wan't to print an email the username of the printjob is changed to an domain administrator. So when the user who prints the job is called "robert" and the domain administrator is called "sysadmin" the username of the printjob is changed from robert to sysadmin.

When we print the same email for the second time (when it's still opened on the computer) the username of the printjob is not changed. So when the the user who print the job is called "robert" the printjob still have the username "robert".

When we print from other applications or Word 2010 and Excel 2010 we don't have this problem. Also when we do a quickprint of an email in Outlook we don't have this problem.

Normally you don't see a problem in this, but because the people are sending password protected jobs they don't see the job under there own username. When they entering there own password for the job (with the wrong username), the job is beginning to print. When we look at the printqueue while sending a printjob the username is the right one, but on the printer we see a domain administrator username.

    Some information

We have two X64 workstations with Windows 7 x64 and Office2010 installed on it. Our printserver is a Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2. There's a printer (xerox machine) with the x86 and x64 driver of the same version installed on it. The people in our company send protected jobs and also unprotected (normal) jobs to the printer. Our Exchange server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with Exchange 2010.

Somebody have an solution for this?

    Hi

Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.

From your description, if the issue occur on that two pc others PC no problem. Please try to test with a new user account because it seems like an issue of Windows or  Printer driver.

We can follow the steps in the articles to create a new user account to test the issue. If the problem does not occur in the new user account, some settings in the old account are corrupted. We can copy the main user files from the old account to the new account, and then continue using the new account.

    For Windows 7:

    Create a user account:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Create-a-user-account

    Fix a corrupted user profile:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

If not working, please try to repair the office refer to the following steps:

    1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Programs and Features.
    3. Click the Office 2010 program that you want to repair, then click Change.
    4. Click Repair, then click Continue. You might need to restart your computer after the repair is complete.

In addition, please have a test of installing the print as local. It will help to verify if the issue would be caused by the printer server or not.

If the issue caused by it, you can post thread to Microsoft Server forum for more help:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/category/windowsserver

For more help, please kindly provide the model of your Xerox print.

Thanks for your understanding. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.

    Sincerely

    Rex Zhang

    Hello Rex,

Sorry for the slow respons, but I had no chance to test this on one of the workstations.

Can you reopen this thread so I can put more information on it and people can reply this?

    Hello,

I have tried a repair of office 2010 and also tried a clean installation, but this was not a solution. The problem was started from the beginning.

I Have tried the following things:

I have logged in with a different user (domain administrator)

    • I install the same printer locally (I call it here "printer1") with the x64 driver and a port with the ip adress of the printer. When I print an email there's no problem. The username at the printjob on the printer is the right one.
    • When I add the same printer from our printerserver (I call it here "printer2") and wan't to print an email the problem (I had described above) is there again.

When "printer2" is not configured as the standard printer on the computer (so you must select this on each printjob) and you print an email you see the wrong username on the printjob at the printer.

When I print an email to a file at "printer1" and print this file on the printserver on "printer2" the right username is at printjob on the printer. When I print to file at "printer2" and print this file on the printerserver on "printer2" the wrong username is at printjob on the printer.

Also noticed when I print an email for the first time to "printer2" the username I see in the queue on the local computer is the right one, but on the printer it is the wrong one.

I had tried to disable all the none microsoft startup services to check if some third party program is causing this, but this is not the problem.

I think the printserver do something with the printjob, but the strange thing about it is that this problem is only when you print an opened email for the first time. When you print the opened email for the second time there is no problem and also MS Word / Excel 2010 and all other programs don't have this problem.

Let me know if there is something I can test or I must post this problem on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/category/windowsserver

    Some extra information

    • The printer model is a Xerox Workcentre 7428.
    • We use driver version: 5.133.3.0N for x86 and x64.
    • We don't wan't to use the Xerox universal print driver because this driver is very big in MB.

    We found a solution....

Since we have a Server 2008 64 bit version we installed the same 64bit printer driver version (5.133.3.0N) and add this printer on the same two workstations. When we print a job the right username is on the printer. So 64 bit drivers can work different on a 32bit server or 64bit server.

    So the problem is solved.

Just curious how you exactly fixed the problem. I see you said it is a driver problem on an x64 install of Windows 2008 R2. We have the same setup with a Xerox Workcentre printer and some users get the same problem you described when printing from Outlook and seeing an admin username in the printer's display and they don't know which job is theirs or not. Every other programs prints fine and shows their username correctly. Did you change print drivers on the server or on the end user's system?

We had only installed the x64 driver of Xerox on the Windows 2008 R2 server. We dídn't installed a x86 driver on the Windows 2008 R2 server because we think there is some problem between the same version of the x86 and x64 driver of Xerox on our (old) Windows 2003 server, but we don't know if this is a problem of the Xerox driver or a problem between x86 and x64 driver communication on Windows server 2003.

    1. Install the xerox printer with the x64 driver on your Windows 2008 R2 server. We didn't install the x86 driver because we don't know if the same problem can come back.

    2. delete all the old printers on the Windows 7 x64 workstation(s) with the  "Print Management" of Windows, but also checked the printer driver folder (don't know it now, because I'm home). Or search for "delete print driver Windows 7"

    3. Connect with the Windows 7 workstation to the printer on your Windows Server 2008 R2 (printserver). This will install the correct x64 driver on the workstation for your printer.

This had solved our problem. Now the correct user is displayed in the display of the printer. Also we had the same problem as you discribed. We had this problem only with Outlook 2010 and not with Word, Excel 2010 or other programs.

The solution here is on the server switch it to LPR from RAW then reinstall the driver from the client end.
