Hello!
You can use external smtp server (I'm using GMail.com) for outgoing e-mails, but I don't think it's possible to use external incoming mail server.

Aviw is right.
We can also use the SMTP service too:
SMTP Server Setup (IIS 6.0): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/e4cf06f5-9a36-474b-ba78-3f287a2b88f2.mspx?mfr=true

Hi Guys thanks, do you have detailed instructions on how to use both methods? how to use Gmail with my SharePoint? Another question which is the main part for my question, will SMTP provide inbox mails like in OWA?
Thanks.

Here are examples of using SP with gmail: 1, 2.
It provides only ability to send emails (through gmail smtp server).
