IIS roles in SP2010

Hi,
I am using SharePoint 2010. I have created a web application using FBA. During the configuration, i created few test users in IIS and and also the roles were created in IIS. In IIS Role Manager i created Admin users, Reader and Super Account as the roles and while creating the users i assgned them these roles accordingly.
Now my question is where are these roles in SharePoint. what is the purpose of these roles. Need details please. What i want to do is to create a site where users can register their accounts (not in AD but using FBA) how can this be achieved.
