Answered SP2007 to 2010 Upgrade- Sharepoint Designer Workflows- Will they work?

    Hi there!

The company where I work is getting ready to upgrade from SP2007 to SP2010 and I have been hearing that the current workflows that are set up in 2007 Sharepoint Designer will migrate to 2010 successfully but that no changes will be able to be made to the workflow once it is moved over to SP2010.  Is this referring to already triggered workflows that are running in the system or does this mean that the actual Sharepoint Designer workflow process will no longer be editable (where the workflow should route and what it should do in certain conditions)?  I really haven't been able to get any clear answers on this and haven't seen this exact question asked so I would greatly appreciate any insight you can give.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I did quite a few MOSS 2007 to SP 2010 upgrades. Unfortunately, none have had customized workflows. Having said that, I read chapters of many SP administration books and none mentions anything very specific about workflows. So my take will be if you are doing database attach, your workflows will migrate and you will be able to edit your workflows.

Why don't you do a small POC? For this, if you have MOSS 2007 dev environment with stripped down version of the content  (just in case your production has a lot of content), migrate that over to the DEV SP 2010 environment and test the workflows specifically.

Thanks Soumya.  I will give that a try....once I have access to the DEV environment.  :)
