Con risposta Load balancing for server having Application and WFE on same machine

I am having 2 servers at present in Sharepoint farm. One is database server and another acts as APP+WFE. Both servers run at Windows Server 2008 R2. I am using Sharepoint 2010 standard.

I want to introduce a new server for Load Balancing. But my main concern is that if all the services will be running on both the servers (ie, 2 server running AP+WFE), then how can I point both the servers to a single Sharepoint site URL.

Also, please suggest me the best solution for implementing the Load Balancing by focusing on my current Sharepoint farm architecture.

    Thanks in advance.

You can implement NLB for WFEs like you normally would, and you have to understand though that SharePoint takes care of the load balancing for the running services software matically, so you won't control that part.

    Hi Margriet,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes you are right that SharePoint will take care of Load Balancing.

My current scenario is that all the services right now are running on the single server, since my Application and WFE are on the same server. So when I am going to introduce a new server, then here also should I have to run all the services for load balancing? And how would I configure the new server so that it will also point to the same Sharepoint url.

All services CAN but certainly don't need to run on the second server. You can select which (0, some, or all) services you want to run on the 2nd server. Also check out http://sharepointnotes.wordpress.com/2008/01/10/adding-an-extra-server-to-an-existing-sharepoint-farm/ , all SharePoint web applications and site collections will automatically be available on every WFE. If you need the same URL, you'll also need to specify AAM (Alternate Access Mapping)s.

Make sure you have everything up to the same level as your existing binaries on the original server and then just add to your farm.  You can add the new server with just the Web Front End role applied to leave all the APP Services on your original server.
