Windows ThinPC fails to open DOC files from internet or intranet via ie9

Working on Windoes ThinPC with Office 2010:
When clicking on a DOC document on the internet or intranet,
Windows/ie prompt asks: "What would you like to do with the ... file?"
Click on OPEN
Microsoft Word windows pops with scrawling messages and moving bar from left to right:
first: "Microsoft Word has stopped working. Windows checking for solution..."
then: "Trying to recover your information"
then: window closes and nothing happens.
However, if one opens WORD at this point, the document recovers and is shown.
If word was already opened, the same sequence happens, only it ends with:
"Microsoft Word has stopped working", [Close Program] button only option to click, and Word closes. Then, if opened, the docx appears.
The same site from non ThinPC Windows 7 workstation, Word simply opens the document same if already Word is opened or not. When Word is called from IE to open a DOC file (NOT DOCX), it appears that it needs to translate it to DOCX.
DOC to DOCX translation fails when called from IE on ThinPC’s. Regardless of on or off domain.
Example: google “jonedoe.docx” – this is actually NOT a docx! But a DOC file, and it fails.
When Word is called from IE to open a DOCX, not translation occurs and it opens it up fine.
Example: go to – http://plone.scottsdalecc.edu/career/sample-ws-jane-doe-resume.docx/view and open the sample file.
This is an actual DOCX file. Works fine!
Furthermore: for every attempt to open such file form internet or intranet, you get this application event viewer error:

Hi,
You may try to repair Windows Office Installation via Programs and features.
Also, since this is a Office product related issue, I suggest posting a thread at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/officeitpro for help.

Thanks!
Reason I posted it here, and would rather post it on ThinPC, but one does not exists, is that i tested it on 3 very seperate builds, all ThinPC and all have exact the same behavior. but, i'll post on Office forum as well.
This appears to be ThinPC specific. we did try repair office w/o new results.

Hi,
Thanks for your understanding. Doc files need the Office Word to open it, so posting at Office forum is more suitable.
Please focus on the thread you post at Office forum. Also, can I please ask for your priviledge to mark the thread as "Answered". This will make the other viewer who have the same issue know that this is an Office product related issue.

lundi 2 juillet 2012 14:49This is a ThinPC issue not an Office issue. Our Windows 7 PCs work fine it is only the ThinPC ones which have the problem!
