From what i am seeing on the HP Site for information about this device is that the drivers have not been updated since March 2007. I also see that they have some update available for a reason similar to what you are explaining.
Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity
You may wish to go to the
site and get the appropriate update for your printer for the system and see if it helps. If this update does not help then you may have to wait until HP gets a appropriate Win7 Driver out.
