Windows 7 32-bit and internal CAC reader errors for Dell Latitudes
-
samedi 18 février 2012 12:00Since installing Windows 7 Enterprise 3-bit on Dell Latitude laptops (E6400 series), we are having issues where the internal CAC reader would stop working even in the middle of typing. I have contacted Dell and was told to ensure that the BIOS, chipset and Control Point are the latest. It is still not working. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Please check the device in Device Manager first. Please contact DELL support for confirming the compatibility of the internal CAC reader in Windows 7 OS.
You can download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to scan your computer for compatibility.Since it is internal CAC reader, you’d better download the appropriate driver from dell.
Meanwhile, I suggest you troubleshoot the CAC reader. (Control Panel-> Troubleshooting-> Hardware->CAC reader)
Windows 7 Compatibility Center

The driver for the Ricoh card reader is under the chipset category at Dell support here:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04
Be sure to select Windows 7 32-bit OS. Windows 7 should also update the driver if there is a newer version available.
I would also recommend that you run the Intel automatic updater. Get it here:
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/
That will update the the motherboard drivers and other Intel devices.
