    Installed Encore USB TV Tuner.
It works but the graphics are not compatible with the aero and thus WIN7 returns to WIN7 Basic to handle the video.
Media center does not recognize the tuner.

Also, the picture image fails after return from sleep mode. Application freezes.

The latest TVWALKER QQ update (installed yesterday) recognized the ENUTV Encore hardware.
But until now it is not stable at all and the quality of the images are much worse than when using the Encore driver itself.
Also the setup of TV on Media center is very awkward compaired to the Encore program.

    Hi

Have you checked with the manufacturer for support or compatibility with Windows 7?

If this ENU USB TVTuner is the device you have installed, it looks like it was made for and only supports Windows XP?

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for testing Windows 7

I have an avermedia hybrid nanoexpress card and also have the problem where Windows Media Center does not recognize the tuner and says no tuner installed.

Also it seems like the TVWALKER QQ  driver from Win7 tries to invade the tuner. However this does not work and the Media center is not able to recognize the tuner, even if I let TVWALKER take over.
The irritating is that every time Window Update has been there, the ENU TV Driver has been substituted by the TVBOX driver rendering my TV inoperational.

    Hi,
It is ENCOREs ENUTV analog USB device with both 32 and 64 bit drivers for both XP and Vista.
I'm still experimenting with the Win7 driver. Who knows, it might start working properly.
If not will have a chat with Encore.

    Thanks!

    Hi again.
First of all: The software (TV program) for the ENUTV driver works fine with Win7. Only down is that it must downgrade the screen for some reason. No big deal.
That program works very fine and quick.

I have now changed the ENU driver to the TVWalker and it does work with the Win7 Media Center. Allthough it seems like there is a los of communication once in a while.

    However:
Tuning to TV channels is a real pain in a certain lower region.
Media center wants antenna, satellite or cable. OK, I choose cable, but my cable provider is not listed so I try another one on the list.
Result is that all channels are wrong. I delete all channels and add them manually. What a pain. Took about 2 hours for 74 channels.
Tried to tweak using the antenna option but no channels were found.

Media center compaired to the original software for the ENU TV modle is like Donald Duck pulling a cart with a square wheel: Slow, hard and extremely irritating.

Changing channels takes from 2 to 10 seconds on Media Center while it is instantaneous on the ENU program.

Well, I only have one TV tuner so I really cannot determine if the problem is with the tuner or with the Media Center. But I can only say that - If I want to watch TV - I'll have to revert to the old ENU driver.

    Any hints out there?

Ambidextrous, I don't think that it's going to work.
As Ronnie said, Encore only lists "windows XP" for supported operating systems.  Worse, they don't list "Windows Media Center compatible."
One major stiking point that you'll have (and, why Media Center doesn't recognize the tuner) is the lack of a hardware MPEG encoder on the tuner, or the lack of a MC-rated software MPEG encoder for that tuner stick.

Frankly, you'll most likely need to replace the tuner with one that carries a "Vista Media Center" certification.
You'll also find that TV setup in Media Center, once you have a compatible tuner, is quite intuitive - one can typically simply accept all of the default settings, and need only enter ZIP code and select TV provider.

We can point you to some tuners; however, we'll need to know if this is a desktop (and, what slots you have available:  PCI, PCIe, or both) or laptop (and, what type of expansion slot you have.)

    HTH,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Thanks a lot for your input.
While Encore advertises with compatibility for XP only, the installation CD does actually come with setup programs for both XP and Vista 32/64 bit.

The tuner and TV program works fine with Win7 on a standalone basis and it did work on the Media Center with the last driverupdate - only very badly and slowly - probably due to the MPEG decoder you mentioned.

The tuner is a USB stick that receives analog TV signal and passes on to a program that shows the TV on screen.

I'm not really into changing the tuner just now as my country (Brazil) is in the process of changing to digital TV transmissions. This transition is far from finished but whenever that happens I'll get myself a digital tuner. At that time everything will probably be Win7 compatible.

For now I'll just play my music on the media center and watch the TV directly on the ENU software.

By the way, the manual for the tuner was made in 2006 so we are not talking about brand new hardware. No wonder it won't work with certain new applications.

    Hi again Chris.
Obviously over time we are all filling more and more junk onto the HD's.
I have one internal HD with 2 partitions:
C-drive with Win7 and associated programs. Size 19.4GB with 4.3GB free
D-drive with the old XP installation which I suppose still works. Size 55.1GB with 40.1GB free
Plus a Samsung USB external HD size 150GB with 17.5GB free

Funny thing is that Win7 was installed on the D partition (secondary) but after installation the C partition (primary) became D and D became C, thus rendering Win7 on the C-drive.

The D-drive with the old XP is of course a completely abandoned wasteland with lots of folders and program installations that are not used (like a complete Office installation), but with lots of free space.

Therefore I have put the pagefile on that partition. I considered placing the pagefile on the external HD (that has a much better benchmark), but that would imply having the HD installed permanently. Also, I suspect that the USB cable connection might slow down the overall speed.

All drives are defragmented on a weekly basis and I do disk- and memory checks regularily. Antivirus constantly, defender weekly.

Win7 is now starting to slow down. Especially the explorer with frequent "Not Answering" messages coming and going. My computer couldn't even show me the statistics from above without a restart. The window just sat there, calculating with no end.

And - related to the TV unit - the sound is starting to "cut". Just a small movement with the mouse is enough to make the sound, and often also the image,  start hacking. This does not happen on any other sound- or video application like Media Player or Real Player.
The TV Tuner program uses up to 81% of CPU where it should only use about 20% which is the value observed when the tuner was installed for the very first time on the XP platform on this same computer.

I have of course un- and reinstalled newly downloaded versions of both TV driver and tunerprogram several times as well as tried to use older versions.
I have moved the tuner module from the external 4 point HUB to a high quality USB extension line direct to the laptop's USB port and finally directly into the USB port. All without seeing any improvement. I'm not sure, but seems like certain TV channels are highlier effected by this, suspect they are the HDTV channels.

Would you estimate that this has to do with the lack of the applications/decoders you mentioned earlier on the TV tuner or lack of space on the disks?

Surely it can not be caused by lack of memory! I have yet to see Win7 use more than 50% of my 2GB Ram. Or can it? I get the feeling that this laptop only wants to work with 1GB althought I cannot find any documentation for this. The amount of memory is correctly recognized by the laptop.

    Win7 experience index: 3.1
    Processor: 3.5
    RAM: 4.6
    Graphics: 3.1
    Game: 3.1
    Primary HD: 4.5

I had the same kind of trouble when having the TV tuner installed on the XP platform, but the problem stopped for a while when installing it on the Win7 platform.

Oh, this became rather widespread. Anybody welcome with comments.

Hi Can't really help you there. My tuner came with an installation CD (which can also be downloaded on the Encore Site). Started the install.exe file and plugged in the tuner. If you experience problems might be an idea to uninstall and clean the registry before trying to install again, perhaps with the assistance of the compatibility assistant. Anyway, if you have the same tuner as I, you probably won't be able to make it work together with the Media Center, but it should work fine on standalone basis. Good luck.
