    hope this is not redundant

with W7RC in WMP12 I can play all kind of videos without any Codec Pack including avi, mpeg, mov (HD video from my Canon SLR).
If I use Mediacenter on that system I see thumbnails for each and every movie including the H.264 clips I can play with WMP12. Selecting a video to be played Mediacenter crashes, i.e. Mediacenter reboots.

Any kind of music and pictures is just fine in Mediacenter slide shows, vizualization, I just can't play any video.

Did anyone observe this previously? Any idea, feedback is highly appreciated.

    Best

    Georg

Sorry, too late. I did it already.

As you can see  from my previous post I am using the onboard video of Intel's DG45FC motherbord.

Unfortunately, Athur's proposal did not lead to any success. In clean boot environment the issue was still there. I investigated the lock files and saw an app error - see details:

I decided to do a grafics card driver rollback to the driver that was installed after 1st system install. This is

Intel G45/G43 Express Chip Set (MSFT Coop  - Prerelease WDDM 1.1 , Version 8.15.10.1749

This one is solving all my problems !!!!!!!

I installed again the Beta driver from Intel's web site: 15.15.0.1808 for Intel® Desktop

    Problems were back again!

So I stay with the MSFT supplied driver. The only drawback is that I don't have any control about picture brightness, modifying the video quality etc. These features were accessible with the Intel app that is installed together with the driver. I'll wait for updates as the system now does what I want.

I have no idea about the root cause - maybe rendering, overlay, hw related driver feature or ...

Maybe this thread helps others running into the same issue.

    Thanks for all your support.

Would be great if someone could post speculations about the root cause.

    Thx again

    Georg

I suggest that you try the following steps to register Media Center components

    1. Click Start->All Programs->Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    2. Type the following commands, press Enter after each line.

    regsvr32 atl.dll
    cd C:\WINDOWS\eHome
    ehSched /unregServer
    ehSched /service
    ehRecvr /unregServer
    ehRecvr /service
    ehRec.exe /unregServer
    ehRec.exe /regserver
    ehmsas.exe /unregServer
    ehmsas.exe /regserver

    3. Close the command prompt.

Then check the result. If the issue persists, let’s disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:

    1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.

    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".

Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

However, if the issue still occurs in Clean Boot Mode, please launch Event Viewer, and check the Windows Logs\Application log to try to find some clues.

Thanks Arthur for your detailed feedback. I'll try out tonight and will give feedback tomorrow.

I was not too precise in describing my setup. I am running Win7RC on an Intel DG45FC with a 9550S CPU / 4 GB. Grafic's Driver is latest Intel Beta driver (15.15.0.1808 for Intel® Desktop ), no 3rd part sw on that system (clean install on blank disk), even no virus scanner up to now.

    Thanks again

Please do not follow the advice as listed in steps 1-3.

Please instead go to the Programs control panel and use Turn Windows Features On or Off to first uninstall and then reinstall Media Center.

You should not attempt to manually uninstall/install Media Center as Arthur presented as that is not how Media Center is installed.

If you're rebooting playing video, that sounds like a serious video card glitch.  What video card do you have?

Sorry to butt-in but I have an idea and I guess another point to MSDN..

If you use 64bit windows by defualt the Media Center is 32bit not 64bit.. lol why is this IDK
this is also from Vista x64 i have uninstalled Win7 already and cannot check, but im sure its still 32bit

Soo.. if you use codecs for x64 you must install the x32 counterpart for Media Center to work
