Wi-Fi Issues in Windows 7 build 7100(RC) here.
I am having issues with my network connection on my Windows 7 build 7100. I get a "Limited Connectivity" and "No internet access"while in fact they should be available. My router is being detected on my laptop but does not connect to the internet.So, I thought i'd put up all I've done with experimenting up here, so that MS can fix it quickly. Here's my system Configuration:
Acer Aspire Notebook 4520
AMD Athlon 64 x2(2.0 Ghz, 2*256KB L2 cache)
Nvidia Geforce 7000M.
2Gib DDR 2.
Broadcom 802.11 b/g wireless adapter with Nvidia nForce networking controller.
Windows 7 build 7100(Public RC).
UTStarcom Wirelesss router model WA3002G4 (This is my Access Point).
Symptoms:
1. After system boots, wireless connectivity works flawlessly. But the working state only lasts for what appears to be a random interval of time(sometimes a minute or two, at other times in excess of 30 minutes).
2.The system then loses INTERNET connectivity. The taskbar icon shows an '!' mark and reports "Limited Connectivity".The system still continues to detect the wireless router however!
3.Restarting the system causes an unusually lengthy shoutdown(4-5 minutes sometimes!).
4.However, after restart, wireless connectivity is completely restored. Note that, the router(UTStarcom) has remained on throughout the process.
5.Resetting the router(UTStarcom) while the system remained ON does not cure the problem.
6.When switching to ethernet AFTER the problem has occured (with WiFi)( i.e Wifi adapter on the laptop disabled(via a switch on the laptop),and the ethernet chord plugged in later), the icon on the taskbar continues to show "Limited Connectivity" and "No internet access". However, I CAN connect to the internet through IE8 or Firefox.
7. The problem DID NOT EXIST in Windows 7 build 7000.
Troubleshooting steps adopted:
1. Typical troubleshooting was to try to disable the wireless card and then re enable it using the Device Manager. However, Device Manager hangs after clicking on Disable.
2. Tried to randomize identifiers for ipV6 usingnetsh interface ipv6 set global randomizeidentifiers
Dos command. But, the problem persists. I have now reset the identifiers.
3.Tried to set the power options to "High Performance", hoping the problem was associated with power. But no dice there either.
4.Updated Windows 7 through Windows Update. The system is fully updated but the problem persists.
5.Installed the latest drivers from both Nvidia and Broadcom, to no avail.
Personal Conclusions:
Because I can still connect to the router(UTStarcom) with my DELL (Which has Windows Vista), and because the problem is only occuring since I installed the Windows 7 RC, I'm inclined to believe that the problem is with Windows. Further, my online exploits to solve this problem show that the Nvidia nForce networking controller appears common in most of the cases with this problem. Nevertheless, it is extremely puzzling why a build almost 3 months older than the RC, performed stably with wireless networking, while this one cant!Symptom 6, seems to lead to the fact that, perhaps, an internal Windows process seems to have "hung" (causing the system to fail to update the ethernet connection settings), which may the reason why the router is detected but still we have no internet access. I also remember to have read somewhere,someone saying that he noticed that when the problem occured, windows was not adhereing to the protocol's time-out periods.I also have suspisions on whether this could be related to faulty WEP encryption/decryption on Windows side.

- I to am having the same problem except when i boot up internet works flawlessly, but when i close the lid and it goes to sleep, i will come back and open it up and it shows limited connection. I have to reboot after coming out of sleep if i want to use the internet. I would also like some help with this issue
- I'm having the same exact problem. I have two versions of Windows on my laptop. The Windows 7100 RC and the Windows 7000 Beta. The Beta (which I'm booted into now) operates flawlessly in terms of wireless. The RC boots up, works ok for a minute or two, then stops. Troubleshooting never works, disconnecting and reconnecting never works. Even plugging in an ethernet cable didn't work. Not sure what the problem is but it sucks because I upgraded the Vista side of the machine into RC1 because I loved the Beta so much.

- I have the exact same problem. Mine is a Dell desktop with a Linksys wireless card.
Because of this problem I now have to reboot all the time. It's really frustrating.
This did not happen when the exact same hardware set up was running Vista. - I too am having this problem.(custom pc with linksys wifi card). Luckly I have a second hdd with xp still on. I have tried everything with win 7 even fresh install and still the same wifi problems. any suggestions

it has nothing to do with the browser. the internet connection plain and simply does not work. I could be using Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, ____ Netscape Navigator and it wouldn't workI have a Linksys Wireless N and am having the exact same problem. I agree...i think it's a pretty silly oversite and a real slap in the face to people who did upgrades from Vista to 7... my laptop becomes practically useless if it can't wirelessly connect to the internet.- I have the same problem, but it appears to be related with the bittorrent client. I've tryed everything and stills happens when i start the utorrent, bittorrent, or bitcomet.

exactly the same issue as above on my Dell Inspiron 6400, else everything every software is smooth and fast.
it never happened on Vista- having same issue 32bit windows 7rc on a acer aspire 5100 when it wakes from sleep it starts getting limited connectivity, after a reboot system works correctly.
- I am having the same issue. Windows 7 build 7000 worked fine with all of my hardware and software. Upgraded to RC1 and now I am having this issue with my internet connection. While the connection seems to fail at random there is a sure fire way to make the connection fail. If left alone, my connection may stay up for 5 to 30 minutes. If I start to download a file the connection fails almost instantly. it is like the software (windows) cannot handle the larger amount of data being transfered. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear then. Thanks.
- I have exactly the same issue issue, but after reinstalling drivers a couple of times and trying older ones i have it working now but strangly the activity light stays on all the time and does not flicker when in use. Also if I put the laptop (Acer 4520) to sleep I have to first turn off wifi with the manual switch and then it is able to wake up fine, if I dont do that it wakes up fine but then hangs the whole system after about 2 min.
- I have the same exact god dam stupid windows 7 RT problem. However I will take a rigged up fix for now until microsoft has the issue one day settled... I have an ACER 4520. was wondering which driver you installed to get the connectivity to stay. I will of course search myself however knowing the amount of junk out there i was hoping you could point me in the right direction and save myself from searching the entire haystack for the elusive needle. Good Luck for all of you !!- I tried your little disable home group! doesnt work... nothing works... Ive tried regedit... ive tried everything... I hope someone has informed Windows there is a major problem with this little WLAN and windows 7 RT... I hope its fixed soon i will check everyday for an update or drive update. However I am forced to restart my computer everytime... I might just jump ship and bite the bullet and go back to vista! I really dont want too.... HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE MAKING OUT?

Ok, so right after i posted this, I noticed that an update for my Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter was ready for download and install at Windows Update. ofcourse my networked hanged, but i restarted, and did the update. And now everything seems to work just fine!!! great! 30min online, downloaded big files, no problem so far!Acer TravelMate 5510- how do you disable home group exactly?
- So i downloaded the new updates from windows and it seems to have worked for my wireless... I have to be honest... i tried everything right up until the point of reading movemats post... it has been on for a consistent 1h 57min.... My wireless adapter is the Rosewill RMX-N2X Wireless N USB.
Wireless worked flawlessly in Windows 7 7000 Beta.
Wireless works fine on my Windows 7 RC 7100 x86 on my netbook.
Ever since the I installed 7100 x64 on my home PC though, my wireless has been going dead. The link light dies, the status shows Limited Connectivity (No Internet), and anytime I try to access ANYTHING related to networking, it freezes up. I've even had one blue screen.
I've tried 4 different fresh installs, problem persists.
I've tried the disable IPv6, problem persists.
I've tried the turn off let Windows turn off device to save power option, problem persists.
The only way to temporarily restore wireless is a full power cycle, but the problem just comes back again anywhere from a half hour to 5 hours. how do you disable home group exactly?
folow this steps :
- Open Network and Sharing Center
- in the left panel chose HomeGroup from Down Left Side
- Then read and Disable this monster...
Good luck- i was unable to connect to a wireless router trough my msi wireless lan card. Even with the original driver the card doesn't install.

Sory about missinformation There is no DISABLE word, the method is : LEAVE HomeGroup and after that is no need to restart your machine, this method aplies instantly... just try.. step back to the computer about lets say 5 to 30 minutes and you will see that problem no longer exist...- I hope this helps...1. click "start"2. click "control panel"3. click "network & internet"4. click "network sharing center"5. click "advanced sharing settings"6. click the "^" associated to "home or work"7. scroll to the bottom you will see "homegroup connections"8. click "use user accounts and passwords to connect to other programs"I hope this is the one. Thanks so much for the step by step help, but "when i close the lid and it goes to sleep, i will come back and open it up and it shows limited connection ". This problem is not fixed :(- Ha. I messed around with stuff trying to fix the problem and now I can't hibernate either. The screen goes blank, but the hard drive light is lit up continually (all night yesterday!). All you can do is a hard power off and restart. W7 complains about it on reboot, and I still have the same network problems. Good grief. Is this a late april fool's joke or something?
- All of this sounds like driver problems. I have a ThinkPad T61 with absolutely no problems. The T61 has Intel 82566MM Gigabit wired connection, and Intel 4965AG WiFi.
However, I do NOT use sleep. Sleep causes more problems than it solves, IMO. Hibernation/resuming works fine, however. Using 64 bit RC.
Also 7 hibernates MUCH MUCH faster than Vista. Vista would take a minute or 2, 7 hibernates (even with more RAM!) in about 20 seconds. - Hi I am having the same issue. I have brand new HP laptop. I was not having connectivity issues until I downloanded the RC version of Windows 7. I allow others to use my wifi router and they have no issues. I get a message saying low connectivity or no connection at all. I use Windows 7 find fix and repair option and it always works......for a little while and then I have to repeat the steps.
The repair says check my wireless card ....and I swear thats not the issue.
Any ideas on how to fix. By the way I use have AMD Turion X2 64.

I cann't connect to internet. If I connect whit ethernet of mother board, I can connect to internet.
- Hello all. I am also in the same boat. HP dv6000 with a broadcom wireless adaptor. I have tried turning off the homegroup and have installed the windows update for the broadcom card and have done all the same troubleshooting listed in this post. I still show limited connectivity (no internet) but I do have internet and it seems to stay connected now after the update. I can not connect to my work VPN because I need to be connected to the internet (even tho I am). Frustrating. My hardwire LAN is fine. I will post when I find the solution.
- Just an update on the hibernation problem. It seems on my Thinkpad T60, W7RC 64bit doesn't like to hibernate when I uncheck the option to allow windows to power off the device to save power. Once I checked that option, bam! I can hibernate again. What a wonderful thing...On another note, I'm not sure what this is all about, but I still have the issues everyone else is having with the wifi connection, like I have the yellow exclamation point and limited connectivity, but if I open up outlook 2007 before I use a web browser, the connectivity problem disappears and I can download my mail, then I can also use the internet. Maybe if I scratch my back with my left pinky while I hop around counterclockwise...all of my problems will go away?

Is anyone still having issues after installing latest updates from Windows Update? If so, can you provide the following
--- make/model of the Wi-Fi card. You can get this by typing "netsh wlan sho dr" on the command prompt
----make/model of your Wi-Fi router

No more disconnects or limited connectivity after resuming from sleep or hibernation. Hope it helps some of you.
I installed the last driver as you told, but after i did it the conection not response, get a red X on the signal icon, i restart the laptop, but the same, the poperties told me that the device is working fine, but i did not get any signal, i had to unistall the driver and install the original driver for HP.
Now is working fine, but for how long I do not know

Regards- Finally, after much gooogling and a sh*t load of headache, I've managed to solve my problems with Wi-Fi.Here are the steps i took:
1.Uninstall my network driver(Computer Management Console-Device Drivers-NetworkAdapters-Broadcom 802.11b/g-uninstall).
2.Uninstall the Broadcom Install utility(Control Panel-Uninstall a program-Broadcom Install Utility-Uninstall). In fact remove ANYTHING that has Broadcom on it!
3.Restart System.

5.Thats it! No more wi-fi headaches in windows 7 RC!
Really, I must say: BEST OF LUCK! - In fact, you could even use the default windows driver after uninstalling the broadcom utilities.

You all reported that you got "limited connectivity" while you were able to browse the Internet. Do you need to manually configure proxies to reach the Internet? Does it still repro for you? If so could you help us gather the logs so that we can invesitgate the issue further? Here is the tracing instruction (from an elevated command prompt):
- netsh trace start nid_wpp capture=yes
- repro
- netsh trace stop
The last command will print out the location of the cab file and you can send it to tinqian@microsoft.com.

We are interested in finding out why home group was the cause of the router issues that you were experiencing. Can you re-enable home group to see the problem still reproes? If so, could you help us collect the logs (from elevated command prompt):
- netsh trace start internetclient capture=yes persist=yes
- repro (ok to reboot if necessary for the repro)
- netsh trace stop
The last command will print out the location of the cab file and you can send it to tinqian@microsoft.com. We will investigate and post back to the forum the findings and recommendations.

When I have vista installed it detects my WiFi adaptor as a Broadcom. And in W7 it detects as a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-card. STRANGE!

I have tried to install the broadcom drivers but W7 detects as the Dell wifi and installs the driver automatically overriding my broadcom installation.
As far as upgrade is concerned i am afraid to take the risk of upgrading it form windows update, what if i get the previous bug back to my PC, since my bug is vanished currently.
- If your problems are detected in the troubleshooter as driver issues (both for cabled and wireless network), you have to restore your windows at the date of for example 15 of may. i've troubleshooted my problem like that, then i could connect and update my system.

After a short time I got the same trouble, I tried to uninstall again the driver from HP, but I could not do it, so I did a clean instalation again, this time I did not install any broadcom driver, just driver from W7, actually I am not installing the driver from windows update, I had a lost signal for a few moment, and the system conect it again but itself.

I have a Linksys WUSB54GS v2.1 here, and had this exact issue, along with some others. I did a clean reinstall, installed the Windows XP 64bit drivers that I was using in rel7000, which got me onto the web, then I ran an update and installed the drivers recommended byt MS update. Hope this helps! - The Broadcom driver are suiatable for several cards including my Linksys WMP300.
The drivers have a profound impact on latency. Allowing Win7 to obtain the latest drivers will result in high latency, and for many users this translates into audio problems.
The driver with the lowest latency is the one supplied by MS for Vista - 4.102.15.61.
However, this release also stops at irregular intervals leaving the adaptor unresponsive, so sorry to say it is not a cure.
So, the bottom line: Allow Windows to install and upgrade the driver and have buggy sound and intermittent network failures, or install the 4.102.15.61 driver and enjoy good sound whilst the connection lasts.
I agree with other posters that the disconnect issue is driver related. But I would love to hear from MS their take on the problem and a description of what's changed in this area compared to Vista.
Manybe we should also be pestering Linksys and Broadcom to investigate too.
Duckysan - I'm also having this problem. I'm running the x64 bit version of build 7100 on my HP tx1220ca (part of the tx1000 touch family). It has a Broadcom wi-fi with wireless N and I'm connecting to a wireless N network build on a D-Link router. Interestingly when I set the router to broadcast in wireless N mode only, the laptop refuses to connect at all although it can usually detect the router (often it doesn't) while other wireless computers running Vista on the network do not seem to have any issues. This may or may not be related but I thought it strange.
While my fiancé can connect with her HP laptop running Vista to the wi-fi network without difficulties, my laptop behaves exactly as is described above. It will connect to the network and usually the internet upon a fresh boot if the router is set to broadcast in all modes (802.11 b/g/n). It will stay connected for a seemingly random amount of time ranging from around 1 minute to about 30 minutes. It will then disconnect or show connectivity problems by way of the yellow triangle and exclamation mark and will refuse to connect properly until the system has been rebooted. Occaisionally it does re-connect and the triangle goes away but nothing on the network is accessible or even visible despite there being no message indicating limited connectivity and having full bars. The internet is also inaccessible despite an apparently solid connection.
Interestingly I do not appear have connectivity problems when the laptop is in tablet mode which lead me to briefly contemplate that maybe the wi-fi antenna had something to do with it until I found this post where it is obvious that others are having identical issues on different hardware. Also, the wi-fi worked flawlessly under Vista on the same hardware only two weeks ago. On a side note, it appears that the connection can be maintained when the laptop is located right next to the wireless router (as in literally on the same desk) so perhaps the issue has something to do with signal fault tolerance/interference? I haven't tested that theory out yet so I'm just floating the idea.
Troubleshooting
To troubleshoot the problem (sadly without success) I've installed the latest Microsoft-provided driver for my Broadcom device. The latest driver seemed to actually make the problem worse by increasing the connectivity problems. I've since reverted to an older, HP supplied driver which has allowed me to at least have some connectivity after reboots. I have tried turning the wi-fi device off and then back on with no effect. I have also tried the diagnostic tool several times which tells that my router needs to be rebooted. I did reboot my router and actually reset it to factory defaults based on diagnostic advice (and rebuilt the network from scratch as I had to reset and configure a wireless bridge as well) but the issue persists. Seeing as both Vista and the Windows 7 Beta did not have this problem I feel that it must be something in the RC build that is causing the problems. - I am,

Tried and tested its working for me.- I have same problem both wireless and wired.. keeps losing connection, I have tried every browser still same thing.. My other 2 laptops side by side does not lose connection, I have updated all drivers etc.. I am using RC ulimate and after 5 mins. I lose connection! I guess the drivers just are not supporting this OSbeta yet? That is only explanation as only have problem with beta version!Christopher

Still having similar issues with the Windows 7 RC.
I have a HP6730b notebook with an Intel 5100 AGN WIFI network adapter.
After boot it takes about 2 minutes before a wireless connections is established.
Until the connection is made the GUI shows a limited connection.
Odd thing is that with an limited connection I expect to receive an APIPA address. This is not the case.
I have tried older intel drivers and newer drivers. This does not seem to make a difference.
Currently using the drivers from Microsoft. ( 12.4.1.4)
There are a couple of programs that interfere with the network card.
Kaspersky AntiVirus 8.0 (beta)
Cisco VPN client 5.0.01.0600
Trying to uninstall these applications did not resolve the issues.
To make things even more puzzling. This issue started a few weeks ago. Before this I have never had this problem. Connection was always established within a few seconds. Unfortunatly I cannot go back in time (system restore) to the period before the problems appeared.
I am not sure what more options I have left.
I doubt updating router firmware will solve this problem. Other Windows 7 RC clients can connect just fine.
Any ideas are most welcome.

OK i uninstalled the broadcom driver and did the scan hardware changes and it works...but i think it goes back to the same driver version i had that keeps disconnecting after the first couple minutes...i'm not sure
Hope this helps!- This is a real deal-breaker for me, it is not an issue with XP - it shouldn't be with a NEW operating system at the RC level.. The sad thing is Microsoft does not address nor give guidance for a resolution to the problem. Pathetic.
- I'm having various networking problems across several laptops and a desktop both wired and wireless. The main issue is that I can access certain servers without any problems whatsoever and others are either very slow or just don't connect at all. Sometimes downloading an .exe will finish and will be corrupted as well. Hulu and Nvidia give me problems, for instance, but google and other websites seem to be fine. For instance if I go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest I can connect and get regular bandwidth speeds with the Washington, D.C. server for instance, but with the New York server my bandwidth trickles down or can't connect at all.
- I had the same connectivity issue with my Linksys WUSB300N wireless card. It would connect sporadically and then disconnect after a few minutes. I scoured all the boards, and tried all the fixes to no avail. In a desperate fit of frustration I decided to try something different. I enabled IPV6 and I set up a Homegroup. Voila... flawless ever since. The only reason I suspect this worked was that maybe Windows somehow reset how it saw my wireless card. If you already have a Homegroup set up, try leaving it and setting it up again. Can't hurt, right?
Luck to All. - Have the exactly same problem with my Dell inspiron 1520. After a few minutes or so, i lost connection and can't reconnect again. I have to reboot to connect again, but the problem happens again(using 7100). But when i first installed win 7, i did not have any problems and surfed like 7-8 hours without any problem. After, i updated my drivers and the connectivity problem showed up.
I will try to uninstall drivers.Hope it works, cuz it really pisses me off, and i am starting to think to use vista again. - We are having the same Problems "Very slow WiFi speeds) with lots of different hardware tested!!! We are using the RTM 76000 16385 build. none of the above solutions worked. we had to use LAN 10/100/1000 Cables to "solve" the problem. with LAN cable connected you dont have to do anything from the above (maybe disable QOS in router and Card protocols) But everything works fine, maximum speeds all the time. Wifi after disable-enable works for a while and then just slows down terrible! with the same Hardware we had NO ISSUES in Vista x64 or XP x64. i cant believe Microsoft cant find right away a solution to this serious problem, so far we have found no other issues using the OS.

ok i managed to make to combine the Windows xp x64 driver and the Vista x64 driver of my TL-WN322G and i made a new 100% workable driver for Windows 7 x64!
i have the link here, it will work for some other TP-Link usb wifi too. install it even it says its not signed. The driver works perfectly so far. Also in the ZIP file you will find the TCP-IP optimizer for windows 7/vista, use it and you will gain much more speed and acceleration!

- I was having the same problems with build 7100. I tried everything I knew to get this fixed. I spent hours searching the internet trying to find a solution. In the end all I had to do to fix my problem was to change from WPA2 to WEP security on my router and everything has been working perfectly for over a week now. I don't know if this will solve everyone's problem but it certainly solved mine. Hope this helps...

- I built a new system (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, 4GB RAM, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor with Intel DG35EC Motherboard - Intel G35 Express, Socket 775, MicroATX, Audio, Video, DVI, PCI Express, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, FireWire, Serial ATA), and installed, clean, 64 bit version Windows 7 RC 7100. Using USB wireless Linksys adapter, was getting great speeds to the internet and no problems with just IE8 running. Then I up'd the ante with Windows Live Messenger and Secondlife and evony running. Lag increased and performance decreased and then the internet connection started dropping every 10 minutes, would auto reconnect within a minute and go for 10 more and drop again. Over and over. Very annoying. I noticed the issue started after 7 windows updates were applied from the build 7100 I was at (base 7100?). My Linksys router was already using WEP security. I plan to try some of the ideas I am reading here, but would love to see a windows update come down to fix this issue for all of us once and for all. My other 4 PC's on the home LAN, all wireless, are running Vista and XP home and have no issues.

C:\Users\William>- I just installed Win 7 RC on my fiancee's HP DV6600 series laptop and it's having a similar issue to my Tx1000 series. Interestingly though, I brought a Wireless B/G-only router online and her laptop has no trouble connecting to that but it has some issues connecting to our normal D-Link wireless N router. I'm thinking maybe it's a problem related to Win 7 and the wireless N (draft) standard? I haven't yet tried disabling N on the D-Link router because my tx1000 still uses N but perhaps it's simply a problem with "N" and not the router or wi-fi card??
- Well, it kinda fixed it for me to use that old driver... It connected coming out of sleep mode, but it started just randomly dropping connection at various other times... i'm back on latest driver and rebooting to be able to connect to internet
- Same issue here it would seem - mine's Linksys WUSB54GSC / tried multiple drivers and can't seem to get one that makes a difference / the broadcom driver listed won't enable the device to 'start' so no big thing there.Have attempted making the router specific to B only - no difference. Considering looking at a log of FileMon / RegMon to watch when I lose my conectivity but that's a lot to read through./waits for the update
- One other thing I would suggest to check is the power saving setting on your monitor. Usually there is a button or button combination on the monitor you can press which allows you to access its settings. I noticed that whenever my monitor went to sleep, the wireless network would disconnect (even though all the windows power savings settings were disabled). When I turned off power saving on the monitor, the problem disappeared.

From what I can say, drivers aren't always the solution for this. It may end up being the solution, but at this point - a lot of the drivers I've tried, for 2 different adapters by the way, didn't solve my issue.

ChintsWhat I have noticed though, is that it may have something to do with a udp hit - though I certainly can't confirm this. What ever the action is that's causing this, seems to affect some drivers/adapters differently than others.-With my Linksys - it haults and basicly freezes the driver in place (i.e. can't uninstall / disable successfully - and once attempted, will not allow the shutdown process to complete). Also, removing the Linksys from the USB doesn't show that it's even disconnected.-With my Azio - I can unplug the device from USB, reconnect it - and it syncs back up and says "oh yeah.. there IS a wireless network out there.. I totally forgot.." <-- so it connects again. This is easier than the Linksys of course, but still doesn't help.*Extra info - I've tried with both devices, bridging the connections and made no difference except, that I DID notice, for some reason, that the time it stopped working was different for each device. Still - no way for me to pinpoint the cause for either to stop suddenly without reasonable repetition. It still seems random.The thing is though, something is happening that causes the driver to go.. Uhh??? Otherwise, the driver wouldn't work flawlessly for a time and then suddenly stop - nothing 'leading up to the moment.' WHAT ARE the guys working at microsoft doing? Can anybody throw a light as to has this thing got to do anything with WPA2-PSK as the network security or its just that issue with W7.............Come on guys lets find something to eradicate this its ridiculous to wait for 15 mins after the laptop boots/comes out of sleep to get your wifi up............- Have you ever tried pinging your router? If you can ping your router, try accessing the setup page. This simple test will prove that your wifi works and your problem is with the router. If you can ping your router try pinging a webpage, if you get an eeror saying host name can't be found, it's DNS. the simplest way to fix this is to set your PC to auto dns, and reboot modem, router, then PC. there are comands you can do but this is the most simplest.
The below is if ping fails
If you can see your router on network sharing menu, then it means your PC is broadcasting it's presence to your network got a replay back. Ping will verify with 4 echo send and replies. If your misses some but not all of it, then you know that connectivity is there but not functioning right. solutions for that are to decrease distance from access point, use latest drivers for product (I have had pretty good success using vista drivers, just remember to download the edition you need 32-bit or 64-bit), and disable any wireless security you have if any. Having the wrong encryption leads to limited connectivity error.
Other things to check. If ou have any other device connected to wifi and it has a static IP (manual configured), ensure its out of dhcp range of router, two IPs can't exsist on network. this also can cause that limited internet error.
i am 95% certain that IPv6 is not even used from your network all the way to your ISP. Your ISP handles all the IPv6 when translating your ISP assigned IPv4 addres to a global IPv6 address. - I actually have a ping test constantly up pinging my router - when the ping is unsuccessful - that's when the connection stops - security and bootup may be a spinoff of the origional issue but the main problem remains. It works for a while, and suddenly without warning it pops off.Oddly enough though - last night it was solid for about 13 hours but this morning it lost connection about 4 times without any commonality as to what I - the user - was doing. - Mate takezo808,The problem here is that whenever the laptop boots up fresh and or comes out of sleep and tries to hop onto the home wifi router it would take too long to get through the connection process. Having said that, the amount of time it takes (atleast for me) to get onto Internet after getting connected to the LAN(my home router) is barely minimal.IF your post above was as a reply to my problm I dont think it falls inline with the issue.You are tellng me to ping the router but how can the laptop ping the router when it is not on a network(in this case Lan). If left to idle for a period of time (5-30+ minutes), a triangle will appear in the system tray over the wireless icon. Internet cannot be accessed from any web browser. System reports that there is no internet access. System reports that the computer is connected to the network.
Attempt to access router via IP address through web browser. eg. 192.168.0.1
Attempt fails. No "connection" despite reported connection by system tray.
Wireless card is disabled and enabled. No effect. Same icon with triangle. No internet. Connected to network. No access to router.

Just to add, I have a USB dlink dwl-g132 wifi adapter and is has NEVER been able to access the internet. I presumed my wireless card was bad and attempted to use a USB adapter but the adapter has never been able to connect.
Previously was using Win XP Pro. All devices were working without problems. Router never had to be restarted.

Oh yea i looked at vista and basically said no. Windows 7 got a good review from a few people so i'm giving the RC at try. - Because of the number of similar issues reported on this forum, it is becoming clear the root-cause is lack of compatible drivers. Windraver comprehensive report indicates the NIC has entered a non-responsive state under Win 7, and this seems quite typical.
Because I dual-boot with Vista, I can discount hardware problems or configuration issues with the router. I run the identical driver release on Win 7, although I have tried other versions.
Another observation is changes to NIC settings often show an initial improvement, but then it'll revert back to the same level of failure.
For example, disabling DHCP and applying static IP settings had my PC stable for more than 6 hours, but this did not last.
There is also an association between the type of traffic. Streaming video or large file transfers will cause immediate failure.
I've reported the issue several times now and have yet to receive a response from either MS or the NIC manufacturer, Linksys. I am running RC at present, but there's no way I'll buy the RTM when available due to this issue.
For information, the NIC in question is Linksys WMP300N, version 1, running mixed mode and the 40Mhz channel for 'n'. Under Vista Business SP2 I enjoy a flawless connection with the same settings. - I took the advice of disabling the homegroups function. I proceeded to set all my settings to open for public and private networks. So far this has prevented my bug from reoccurring.
This means there might be a problem with the homegroups functionality but thats just a theory. - I can't give anyone the solution to all the problems noted here with wireless in Windows 7 on laptops, but I can state that I have 3 laptop with various wireless internal cards and they all have functioned properly with Win 7 public beta, Win 7 RC, and now with Win 7 RTM. So it's not something that is inherently wrong with Win 7. My laptops are a Dell Inspiron E1705 with an Intel 5300, a Dell Inspiron with a Ralink card, and an Asus Eee PC with AzureWare NE770. They all connect in 802.11n and the connect speeds vary from 170MHz to 300Mhz. I have never experienced any dropped connections or any other problems.
Just my 2 cents. - It appears broadcom devices are being affected. My problem is amusing actually. Wifi functionality is now erratic. Wifi absolutely will not work in combination with Ethernet connection.
in any case, i had an internet emergency and ended up running to a different computer because windows 7 just isn't reliable enough when it comes to networking. maybe its my luck with the hardware support. I have same problem with Intel driver.

- I had this kind of problem on my Dell Latitude d630 laptop with Intel Wireless 4964AGN card under Windows 7 RC2 64 bit. Internet connection wouldn't resume after wakeup. Then I resolved the issue. Here's what I did. I'm using a wireless router Netgear WGR614 v.6, which was set up to assign a particular IP address for each computer in my home network (I allowed only few IP addresses 'cause I didn't want 'guests' in my network). When I cancelled this feature and reset the router, the problem disappeared. Computers get IP addresses automatically now, and Windows doesn't lose the connection any more. Of course, it means there's a compatibility issue between Netgear and Windows 7, but at least my computer works now.
- I had this problem too, a toggling your wireless should work though rather than a full restart.

It's an endless story with ALL Operating Systems. Changes are made to the kernel that render some hardware, and some software, incompatible with the new kernel and companies affected have to update their drivers/software to be compatible.
If an automobile was built to run on rosebud oil but the company making rosebud oil didn't produce it in time, or in adequate quantities, it not the automobile manufacturer's fault - it's the rosebud oil comapnies fault!- Well It definetly is driver issues. I just recieved an express card gig ethernet card, I needed it for my gig network. Well guess what, it works perfectly. The Realtek built in ethernet didnt work right nor did the mini PCIE Intel 3945 abg WIFI card, they both gave me the high pings. But the Belkin express card gig ethernet with the Marvel chip worked fine with the built in driver in 7. IT detected it flawlessly. Well I hope that settles it, its the drivers and incompatabilties. These issues should have been addressed already by Microsoft though....no excuse especially with the Intel wifi card.

There are no drivers for 7 for my 3945 wifi card. Since the OS is not out yet we cant complain but it is very close, the 22nd of this month. YES they have failed on this at least. But as you say its common for Microsoft though they have made leaps and bounds and the performance and additions to this OS are fantastic. An example with Win 7: I use Vipre antimalware. Vipre worked with the Public Beta. When RC was released there was a problem with Vipre reporting its status to Win 7 - Microsoft did not request an update; Sunbelt Software initated the necessary action on their own. When RTM was released there was an issue with Vipre starting Active Protection - again Microsoft did not request an update; Sunbelt initated the corrective active themself. I can give more examples if you wish.
It is ENTIRELY up to the hardware and software companies to decide if they wish to support a new operating system and there are some that just decide to not do it. Another example is Windows XP x64. Initially Intel opted to not get involved at all so the first few edition of Win XP x64 Beta were for AMD64 CPUs ONLY - you could not install it on any Intel CPU. Microsoft did not care whether Intel support XP x64 or not.
And, yes, Microsoft has done very well at including drivers in the installation package, but those drivers were voluntarily supplied - there was no request from Microsoft or pressure on the companies.
It is exactly the same with all operating systems. Software and drivers are entirely voluntary on the part of the respective companies! Microsoft can engineer a new operating system, but Microsoft cannot force any company to support it. Like the old saying: you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot force him to drink the water!- hahaha, i think we've all dealt with new versions of windows over 15 years now. windows 3.1 was fun. If you look around, backwards compatibility is favorable. Game companies can do it. Microsoft has attempted to do it as well but with the wealth of hardware out there it is clear that not everything can be compatible. Now imagine if they made something that would convert an old XP driver to work on windows 7? wouldn't that be nice? Vista sucked because of bugs and driver issues. Microsoft should know clear and well what they did with windows XP and Vista. If they can create an OS that supports older drivers then its great! hardware companies would love microsoft because the cost to fix all their drivers is enormous. Some of their hardwares don't even receive support anymore so they wouldn't even bother.
I'm sure many of us recall the compatibility module in Windows XP where it would try to support 98, 95 versions. Its not something microsoft HAS to do but it is definitely something Microsoft CAN do if they want people to embrace their new OS. I'm not going to use windows 7 anymore simply because its not compatible with my laptop. I eventually found it too irritating to use a cool operating system that didn't let me use ethernet or wifi. Drivers were installed by microsoft's update. So I guess its farewell. back to XP, why upgrade if its gonna break your computer :p - I am having the same problem. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? It only seems to be getting worse for me. I could not get on the internet at all last night! It seems like this would be a problem that microsoft would want to fix as soon as possible, considering that windows 7 is supposedly their best OS to date. I am not too happy with it! Just to let everyone know: I am using an Airlink101 wireless adapter model#AWLH3028, and a Linksys wireless G broadband router model# WRT54G2.
- I installed the final build of win7 and it seems to have fixed the problem so far. I'm thinking they simply fixed the problem in the final build rather than put out a patch or something for the rc build.

Why don't you start a new thread. The original post was about Win 7 RC. If you now have Win 7 Home Premium, which is RTM, then your post here is really not relavent and actually would tend to get lost in all the menutia.- Have started a new thread:) Just wondering why are they selling such a ____ product that cannot even connect to the internet easily....thot this is the basic for any pc nowaday.....
- Why dont you just change the wifi card with another? I know you shouldnt have to. There like 10-20 dollars on ebay. Sounds like yours is not compatible yet until new drivers come out.
