I have a Server 2008 SP2 Core install. I have a 100GB volume that I formatted with the compressed flag turned on. However, when I copy data to the volume, it does not appear to be compressing. When I remotely look at the properties of a folder that I copied into the volume, or if I do a 'dir' command locally, the size of the folder is the same as it was before copying. I should note that I have never tried Windows volume compression before, so am unfamiliar with how it exactly works.
Am I missing something? Is there a way I can verify that compression is turned on?
