Well, I got a nasty virus on my P.C that deleted a system file, Buh Byes X.P!!! I thought the virus had been deleted with My Avast antivirus, guess I should have listened to Big Bro about the thing to disactivate something that allows programs to re-install themselves once they have been deleted? Well I thought of it, but forgot how to do it, so I let it be, and My Windows XP failed. Now I get an error messege

"Disk Boot Faliure. Please insery System Recovery disk and press enter"

Well, after playing around with the computer it told me A system file had been courupted. Also, 2x I was able to enter my password, but it froze as soon as my desktop showed up. What a bummer.

Anyway, 15yr old brother isn't very computer smart and same thing happened to his computer, he fixed it, and being the smart potatoe he is, threw out the disk!! So now I have NO windows XP disk. I'm on my Mother's P.C and was wondering if there was a way I could download the necesarry files and burn them onto a disk? anyway I could extract them from this working computer?

-sigh- Yet another one of my brothers (i have four) bought a new laptop and I was sure a recovery disk would be included, but was not. -Big Sigh- Help?

I would suggest trying the Windows XP Expert Zone Community at the link below to find an answer to your question: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/default.mspx

This is a Windows Server Longhorn forum.

Depending on the version of XP you are working with (Home Edition, Professional, MCE, Tablet PC) all that you need is ANY Windows XP bootable installation disk. Try borrowing from your neighbor if anything. One you have the disk:

    1. Put the disk in the busted computers CD drive
    2. when it says "Press any key to boot from CD" then do it.
    3. Let it go through the process of what its doing.
    4. Then it should give you an option to install XP or recover a corrupted installation
    5. Choose to recover an installation and let it do it's thing.

Basically what it will do is wipe out the windows installation and reinstall it. This won't damage your data. It's just deleting the C:\Windows folder and basicaly putting a new copy in place. When you reboot and log on to windows when this is all done, you will see all your data in tact and your system working again.
