I am having trouble getting my WSUS 3.0 SP1 server to synchronize with Microsoft. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but a few months ago I had moved the clients from a virtual server to a physical server. To do this, I buildt the server with a different name, installed WSUS, configured the settings to match, shutdown the virtual server, renamed the physical server to match the original virtual server's name. The clients have checked in and are reporting correctly. I had synchronized successfully at one point but do not remember if it was before or after the rename....

Most assuredly renaming the server has contributed to your complications.

Since it doesn't appear you retained the database from the virtual server, your easiest resolution is to uninstall WSUS, dispose of the current database, and reinstall WSUS so that everything will have the correct name.

Is there anyway to do this and still keep existing settings and approvals?
