Beantwortet DPM 2012 remote SQL Server Cluster issue

    Hi

    I' ve encountered the following error while installing 'DPM 2012 RTM' with 'SQL 2008 R2 SP1 Ent.' 2 Node cluster as a remote SQL.

    At the DPM 2012 installation stage;

    Failed to copy file from C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\DPMD3F7.tmp\DPM2012\setup\ReportSRV4.dll to \\SQLCLUSTER\C$\ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.TYSQLINST01\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\ReportSRV4.dll. (ID: 4339)

    Review the error details and take appropriate action. Then retry the operation.

    I agree with that because  \\SQLCLUSTER is resolving to cluster IP address so can't access to this path. In this case! I think if I write exact name of the cluster node e.g. "NODE1\INSTANCENAME" it will works but this time there will be another problem when NODE1 failover to NODE2, won't there?

    Thanks

    I too can confirm this problem while attempting to put DPM 2012 on a cluster.

    I attempted to add a shared drive to the cluster resource group, as in path above, so that the UNC path was accessible over the network.  However, the DPM install still failed at the same stage.

    Hi,

    We do not support DPMDB in a cluster because we need reporting services which cannot be clustered.

    Please use a standalone SQL server for DPM backend database.

    Thank you for letting us know.

    For future DPM versions, it would be really nice if SSRS could be decoupled from DPM so that installing on a cluster would be possible.  For instance, CfgMgr and OpsMgr have SSRS features decoupled from the main install procedure, so that they can use SQL clustering and SSRS NLB scale-out all on separate servers.

    Along these lines, it would be nice if DPM would come with some more stock reports.  CfgMgr and OpsMgr have many stock reports and DPM only has a handful.

    The DPM ISO would be a lot smaller if it could be more separated from SQL; none of the other SC2012 products have a full SQL on the ISO.  It is great that System Center 2012 has converged the products so well into one suite, but now it seems that there needs to be more consistency between each product to further streamline the experience.

    DPM 2012 is cool, but I am already looking forward to DPM vNext, if it will address some of these things.
