Subject truncated/calculated column

Hi,
I need to truncate my forum's subject column when the chars inside it are equal or greaten 30 and insert the result to another column.
I would like to have the following result:
Subject inserted by user: SubjectSubjectSubjectSubject
Result in other column: SubjectSubject...
How can I do that?

hi,
a possible solution can be to customize your Edit Form throug Infopath.
Create a rule on your "subject" field and add a "set field value" action. on this field.
in the "value" part of the action use "substring" function to truncate your string.bg Andrej

You can use the xslt to reach your goal.
You can start to work by the Sharepoint Designer, you can modify the View of your web part and than change how the subject was displayed if is greaten than 30... I will publish a post in my blog.
