Tracing Renamed FCS MOM Client Computers to Point to New FCS MOM Server

Jawab Tracing Renamed FCS MOM Client Computers to Point to New FCS MOM Server

We recently changed our FCS environment to a new FCS server farm.  We now wish to change our remaining FCS client computers from pointing to the old FCS MOM server to the new FCS MOM server.   However, we have a problem.  The team who look after allocating client computers to rooms have moved the machines and renamed them, without uninstalling and reinstalling the FCS and MOM agents.  This means that I can now see from the MOM database on the old MOM server that some renamed machines are still reporting to it.  I would like to remove the MOM agent and install the MOM agent for the new FCS MOM server so they are pointing to it instead.  However, these database entries show the old hostnames of the machines, before they were renamed.  I would need to know the current hostnames.  The trouble is, I can find no records mapping old hostnames to new hostnames or IP addresses and, therefore, I can see no way of finding out the new names of these machines.  Note that we no longer have any obvious sources of this data outside of MOM.  For instance, we no longer have the old hostnames in DNS or DHCP.

How do I find out the new names of these machines ?

For example, in the old FCS MOM server \\OLD-MOM.contoso.com the MOM databases show a client machine still contacting it by the name of oldclientname1.contoso.com.  This computer was renamed by someone in Operations Team who kept no record of what they renamed it to and did not uninstall and reinstall the FCS / MOM agent.  I would like to know what this machine is now called so I can uninstall and reinstall the MOM agent so it reports back to the new MOM server - \\NEW-MOM.contoso.com.  How do I find out what it is now called ?

    Here are the details:

    Server O/S: Windows Server 2003 Std x86
    FCS Server Version: 1.1.1710.90 SP1
MOM Servers: FCS integrated, version: 2005 SP1
Client O/S: Mostly Windows XP Pro SP3 x86

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your post.

When you computers are renamed, you must remove and reinstall the MOM agent from the affected systems on site or remotely. No other way to fix it caused by MOM agent configurations.
To the old computer name, run FCS Offline Asset Removal Tool to remove them. (KB2272146)
Here is simliar thread, please take a reference.

Thanks Rick.  Will keep that tool in mind for the future.  However, in the meantime I've run queries and migrated what machines I could to the new FCS server.  Thanks again!
