PowerPivot and grouped slicers

I've got a great Excel 2010 file with a bunch of PowerPivot PivotCharts and PivotTables linked to a SQL Server source. I'm trying to open this on SharePoint 2010 and I'm getting an error:
The workbook cannot be opened because it contains the following features that are not supported by Excel in the browser:
• Grouped SlicersI'm not even sure what makes any of the slicers I have "grouped". Internet searches have turned up nothing. Hoping someone here has an idea so I can get this resolved.
Thanks,
Ken

Hi,
Based on my research, there are some Differences between using a workbook in the browser and in Excel.
For the Slicers part, it is said that Slicers that were created in an Excel 2010 workbook can be displayed. However, if a workbook in the browser contains one or more slicers that are part of a group, you cannot open the workbook.
Please check whether the workbook contains some slicers in some group.

15 Mei 2012 12:19I saw the reply. The link makes no mention of anything like this. What exactly makes the slicer grouped? Is it the fact that I have a numeric state field in the main data table joined to a lookup table so I can display state name to the users? If this is the case then this needs to be fixed. If not then I don't think I have any grouped slicers and want to know how to fix this. I realize things may work differently between browser and Excel but I am doing exactly what has been advertised as a good BI solution.

Hi,
I want to confirm with you that if there are more than one field in the Row Labels in the PowerPivot Field List, then the Pivot table is grouped. There are something like +/- before the group.

17 Mei 2012 14:38I have one field in the row labels. I tried removing the one vertical slicer that may have been the issue. It was not. I'm going to try putting all the fields in the query on SQL Server, remove all the joined lookup tables in PowerPivot, and then make the changes in the Excel PowerPivot Field List and try again.

17 Mei 2012 18:50Building one query to rule them all failed. I got bigger and worse errors. I finally got this to work by removing a slicer field from the vertical category that was also a row label. This is just sad. I want to be able to filter on that too. Do I need to include the lookup table twice and slice on one and display the other? If so then someone needs to be this submitted as a bug and fast. This seems like a very common setup that I'd use in many potential PowerPivot projects. I don't see how this isn't a bigger issue. This should have been documented long ago.

Slicers are grouped in the Slicer Tools Ribbon.
- Click the slicer (or multiple slicers at once)
- Slicer Tools ribbon
- Arrange group
- Group dropdown
You should be able to ungroup the slicers and open the workbook on Sharepoint.
Please remember to mark this as "answer" if it resolves/answers your issue.

Thank you. That works for me. Not sure I know how that got set. What is the advantage of that? I can see the disadvantage if you upload them which is what I plan on using for the most part.
