I have a .xls file that requires a XML data input.  In Excel 2010 the "Get External Data" is grayed out.  I have tried saving this file as an Excel 2010 format and it sitll is grayed out.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,

You could only import 1 set of external data for the worksheet. If you have an old external data, the "get external data" icon will be grayed out. If so, try to clear the old external data.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,

I am having the same problem as the person you replied to.  Could you help me as well.  How do you clear old external data?

I had same problem.  I fixed it by entering Control A to select everything on the sheet and then press delete.  Bad news is I lost the column headers, but I didn't have to create a new page and resize the columns, etc.
