Despite the Sophos anti-virus engine discontinuation by Microsoft on the 1st Dec 2009 the server app still seems to be trying to get an update for the virus engine. We are running:
    Version: 10.2.0942.0
    Service Pack: 3

Sophos does not appear as an available engine in the administrator UI but I am continually seeing the errors below. Interestingly enough the other 3 discontinued anti virus engines do not try and update themselves.

Microsoft Forefront Server Security encountered an error while performing a scan engine update.
       Scan Engine: Sophos
       Update Path: http://forefrontdl.microsoft.com/server/scanengineupdate/x86/Sophos
       Proxy Settings: Disabled
       Error Code: 0x80004005
Description: An error occurred while checking if an update was available.

I wish it were as simple as that, as previously stated Sophos does not appear anywhere in the Forefront Server Security Administrator so there is nothing to de-select as that article indicates. Somehow FF its still trying to update the Sohpos virus engine failing and sending out an e-mail.

The virus engines I do see in the Admin UI are:
    Authentium Command Antivirus
    Kaspersky Antivirus Technologies
    Microsoft Antimalware Engine
    Normal Virus Control
    VirusBuster Antivirus Scan Engine

    Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

Please install the latest version FSSP 10.3 and see if it works.

    Hello Nick,

You are talking about a 10.3 version of FSSP, but the only version we can download at Microsoft is the SP3 10.2 version.
Is there a way to get the 10.3 version? because we stil get the Sophos update error.

    Regards,

Did you get  a answer or a fix for this  The same issue with Shophos, and CAvet -- I cannot remove them since they are not listed and they keep making error entries to the event log when thry try and update.
