Jawab Reinstalling Lync Server (FE & Edge) but not AD

I have Lync Server that's installed already and functioning butafter a year of operating in production environment we think that Lync Server is not working properly even though most of services are working and we have no critical issues but sometimes we seem to have AV issues with federated partners.

So I was wondering if re-installing Lync requires a new Active directories as well since there will be so many information still stored on the AD.

I would like to keep the AD because I have other servers running on this domain, Is there any tool to clean AD from previous Lync for future installation ?

    thanks

I think you are taking the wrong approach. It is not uncommon to have AV issues with Federation partners and 99.9% of the time it is the network edge (router, hlb or firewall). I would strongly suggest you troublehsoot more extensively including network captures.

Re-installing Lync will not fix your issue. Open a Support case with MS if you don't have the experience to troubleshoot this.

    Alan,

in the same network I have deployed another Lync server and it's well operating without any issues what so ever!

Thing is, the person who deployed the troubled version of Lync has deployed it without an edge server or firewall, so it's basically working with windows's static routing and firewalls are open wide to the public.

Server is published on the internet which might caused it to be exposed for attacks, spyware..etc

Well that is a different story but all your need to do is remove the server from the topology and run bootstrapper on the server in question. This will clean up active directory and the server itself although because what you suggest happened I would reinstall the OS on that server.

    Hi Sean,

I have created new virtual Machines with the same hostnames! and it seems i'm receiving error with the new DNS.

I have created a new question in regard! I will continue working on this until I complete the deployment of Lync! at the moment I have finished Lync FE and Edge. but don't want to install public certificates before I make sure that AD is functioning properly as nslookup resolves with time out for 2 seconds and it causes Lync FE to lose connectivity.

Thank you everyone for your help.
