I have seen that SharePoint 2010 search cannot index Office 365 content. Does this hold true for FAST as well?

    Hi Ed,

You are correct. FAST does not work with Office 365/SharePoint Online.

    Thanks,

    Tim:

I'm looking at an environment with FAST on premisis and some content in Office 365. How can I support enterprise search in that model?

    Thanks,

    Ed

FYI - I've heard from my Microsoft team that FAST can now index the cloud from the in premisis search instance.

Out of the box, you can perform client-side federation with Office 365 and on-prem SharePoint/FAST, giving the end-user side by side results in their SP Online Search Center.   To have your on-premise instance of SP or FS4SP crawl your O365 content (whether SP Online, Exchange Online, or both) you need a third-party tool.   The benefits of a single index as opposed to federation are:  A uniform set of refiners and a single relevance model, (and if you are running FS4SP on-prem then all the cool CPP and Entity Extraction stuff FAST can do on your SP Online content.)  BA Insight offers an Office 365 Connector that does it.
