Problem Reinstalling Virtual PC Windows XP Mode

I am operating Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). In the past I had Windows XP Mode fully operational on my computer but uninstalled it. I am now trying to reinstall Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC. I was able to download and install Windows XP Mode. I was also able to download Virtual PC but when I try to install Virtual PC I receive an error message stating that "The update is not applicable to your computer”.
I went to the “Start” button and selected “All Programs “ and found no reference to “Windows Virtual PC”.
Any help with installing Virtual PC would be appreciated.

That link is just an update, it is not the full version of Windows VPC.
To verify if WVPC is installed or not, look in Control Panel-->Programs and Features-->Turn Windows features on and off.
If WVPC is installed it should be listed under Windows Features.
Download the full WVPC from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
You only need that update if you: 1) don't have SP1 installed and 2) have a CPU without hardware virtualization

Hi Smjain,
Thanks for your reply.
I checked programs and features and WVPC feature was installed.
I then actually turned the feature off and rebooted the computer.
I then turned the feature back on and rebooted the computer.
I tried reinstalling Windows Virtual PC (same file as in your link) and again received the error message that "The update is not applicable to your computer".
Do you have any further ideas?

Since it is installed the message you're getting is expected.
What do you see when you go here:
C:\Users\%username%\Virtual Machines
If WVPC is installed correctly, there should be a "create virtual machine" in the menu bar.
The executable for WVPC is here: %SystemRoot%\system32\vmwindow.exe
When you uninstalled did you manually delete the start menu for Windows VPC and XP Mode?
Are you looking for XP Mode? That is a separate download.

Hi Smjain,
Thanks for your further email.
I checked C:\Users\%username%\Virtual Machines and was advised that the folder was empty.
I then searched for vmwindow.exe and found 1 executable file.
I then went to the “Start” button and selected “All Programs “ and found a newly created reference for “Windows Virtual PC” and "Windows XP Mode".
I then rechecked C:\Users\%username%\Virtual Machines and found Windows XP Mode.vmcx.
Thanks to your assiatance Windows XP Mode is now up and running.
Congratulations on a job well done.
Regards
Phil
