"Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close"

    Question

  • Continuous pop up of Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. then takes me out of whatever web site or program I am working in.

    Hi,

     

    To make this issue clear and ensure you get the corresponding suggestions for this issue, please let us know the Windows and Internet Explorer versions.

     

    Regarding the error, please try the methods in the following Knowledge Base articles if the symptoms are similar with this issue:

     

    You receive an "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close (Mshtml.dll)" error message

    If the issue persists, please also try the following:

     

    Internet Explorer does not start or stops responding

    When you start Internet Explorer, it opens, flashes, and then closes immediately

  • Please try RIES "How to Reset Internet Explorer settings".


    If the issue persists...

    1. Please follow to the letter all the directions in this thread: How to get rid of malware
        1a. You may have to use a non-infected computer for any downloads specified below, until your malware is removed. Use a USB Pen drive or burn to CD or other means to carry the necessary utilities to the infected computer and copy to the Desktop.
        1b. Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool download here off-line.

    2. If the issue persists you can find Microsoft MVPs and other trained analysts at the following help sites:
    Aumha.org
    Atribune.org
    SpywareHammer
    BleepingComputer
    Safer-Networking
    Etc.

    3. If you need more help with virus-related issues, contact Microsoft Product Support Services.

    For information about Security updates, visit the Microsoft Virus Solution and Security Center for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you are having issues with installing the update itself, visit Support for Microsoft Update for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.
