  • I am trying to install IE 8 on server 2003 R2 sp1 (32bit), I am using the installer from Microsoft downloads "IE8-WindowsServer2003-x86-ENU.exe but get the error  "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this Operating System". I currently have IE 7.0.5730.13.

This is the error from the ie8_main.log

  • I am trying to install IE 8 on server 2003 R2 sp1 (32bit)...

    Will IE8 install once you've installed SP2 (Released 13 March 2007 & predating IE8 by a year)?

  • Hi,

In the System Requirement for Internet Explorer 8, we can see the following in supported Operating System:

Windows Server 2003 32-bit with SP 2 or higher

Windows Server 2003 64-bit with SP 2 or higher

Internet Explorer 8: Help and support - System requirements

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/system-requirements.aspx

Therefore, just as Robear suggested, please update to Windows Server 2003 with SP2 or later to have a try.

    Thanks.

  • We are using Windows Server 2003 32-bit with SP 2.

IE 8 does not install. No documentation or explanation here on on MS site.

    Total nonsense.

  • Also unable to successfully install IE 8 - Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched...we was before attempting the install.  Download is successful, now has been sitting at "Checking your computer for malicious software" for over an hour!  Any assistance would be helpful.  Thanks.

You might see this previous & related discussion => http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/ieitprocurrentver/thread/f0058f52-68e2-4d09-8d86-1eef5c1da122

Ideally, you'd begin your own, new thread about the Win2003 computer-in-question. Good luck.

  • At some point I also got the message "Your operating system is not supported" when trying to install IE8 on a fresh 2003 installation. Installing .NET did the trick in my case.
