    Question

  • One of my clients using IE8 constantly receives the following error, which also results in a forced close of IE8:

    Problem signature:

      Problem Event Name:                        APPCRASH

      Fault Module Version:                        8.0.7601.17940

      Exception Code:                                  c0000005

      Exception Offset:                                001df766

      OS Version:                                          6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48

      Locale ID:                                             2057

      Additional Information 4:                  0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

Could anyone shed any light onto what the problem could be? I have run a plethora of anti-virus and anti-malware scans on his system, all of which confirm that the system is clean.

    Thanks in advance,

    Preecey

Crashes in low level modules are often caused by interference from other programs, including security programs, earlier in the calling sequence.   Hence you would need to capture a Stack Back Trace of the crashing thread to check out that possibility.   We used to be able to get such a diagnostic immediately from drwtsn32.log.  Unfortunately, now you will need to do some dump formatting to get it.

Alternatively you can try to isolate a symptom cause by doing clean-boot troubleshooting.

    Good luck
