Internet Explorer 10 stops working on selection of new tab, or opening a link to a separate website (Windows 7)

    Question

  • On selecting new tab, IE 10 stops working. The usual 'Internet Explorer has stopped working' and 'Windows is checking for a solution' and 'Close this program' show on the screen. It takes several cancellations of these warnings before the new tab page either opens properly or closes completely.

This problem seemed to start around the time of a set of security updates automatically downloaded around April 11th 2013. I have seen various solutions proposed in forums regarding 'add-ons' and resetting IE settings, but I am nervous of taking drastic actions without knowing the effects.

If there are solutions to this problem, please outline them in layman's terms - I am only partially computer literate!

    Regards to all

  • Also, can you open the Action Center on the taskbar > Maintenance > View reliability history > View all problem reports

Can you right-click on a few of the "Internet Explorer"  "Stopped working" errors > View technical details

What are the details of the errors?

There is a "Copy to Clipboard" link at the bottom.

Paste the information first into Notepad and then recopy the information from Notepad to post here.
