Exchange 2010 cann't send email to Exchange 2007

    Domanda

  • Exchange2010 sp2 server coexistence with Exchange 2007 sp2. Email send from exchange2007 to exchange2010 is ok, but exchange2010 cannot send email back to exchange2007. Is there something missing in the setup? Thank you.

  • Hi,

Please enable the default receive connector on Exchange 2010 and then remove smarthost.

  • I’m able to send and receive emails from ex2010 and ex2007 now. It works both ways. The problem was after I modified the receive connector on ex2007, I didn’t reboot the server. I scheduled a downtime this weekend and rebooted ex2007, after the reboot I was able to send and receive emails both ways.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Are both servers in the same org/forest?

    What does message tracking show?

What about the SMTP protocol logs? If logging isn't enabled, enable it and retry.

  • Refer to Jason Sherry request

Also, do you have white/black listing product running on Exch 2007 such as SendIO

we had a similar scenario with a client recently and the SendIO was the reason why mail from Exch 2010 doesnt get delivered back and through to Exch 2007

How is your Send connector, Receive connector and Accepted Domain configure especially if cross-forest

Remember Exch 2010 need an Exch 2010 HUB to deliver mail to 2010 mailbox and vice versa

  • There is no white/black listing on ex2007.

There is a Send connector on Ex2010 which is the same one on Ex2007. This send connector send email through smart host-McAfee email filter.

Two Receive Connectors-Client and Default with default settings.

    Accepted Domain: domain.com - Authoritative

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Are these Exchange Servers in the same AD site?

You can use get-exchange |fl name, site to check it.

Did you implement MACfee between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007?

Please try to clarify the mail flow of your organization.

    Exchange 2007-Exchange 2010-Smarthost-internet?

Please use get-sendconnector |fl and then post the result here.

Besides, I recommend you to remove the send connector and then check the issue again.

  • According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998662.aspx "implicit and invisible Send connectors that are automatically computed based on the Active Directory site topology are used to route messages internally between Hub Transport servers." "Send connectors that are created on Hub Transport servers are stored in Active Directory and are available to all Hub Transport servers in the organization".

I thought I don't need to create a send connector to route internal emails.

I disabled IPv6, add ex2007 in hosts file on ex2010.

May be there is something wrong with the server setup? Thank you.

    Hi,

There are two send connectors in the organization, one is  McAfee which is created on Exchange 2007, the other is ex2007 which is created on Exchange 2010.

Please try to use remove-sendconnector to remove the connector on Exchange 2010.

  • The send connector on ex2010 is removed. There is only one McAfee send connector now.

    The error message on ex2010:

    hub version 8:

"451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with:
"421 4.2.1 Unable to connect."" Attempted failover to alternate host,
but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or
delivery failed to all alternate hosts."

I got the same error message on ex2007 when I disable receive connector on ex2010.

    Thank you.

  • Some clarification:

    ex2007:
    HUB ?
    CAS ?
    Mailbox ?

    ex2010:
    HUB ?
    CAS ?
    Mailbox ?

Is ex2007 and ex2010 in the same site or separate

ex2007 seems to be directly connected to external network (smarthost) ?

Is ex2010 also connected directly to external network ?
You might not need explicit send connector on ex2010,
given that ex2010 and ex2007 share same Exchange organisation name and AD namespace confirm?

    Mail send test:
    A1: ex2007 to ex2007
    A2: ex2007 to ex2010
A3: ex2007 to external (eg gmail, yahoo, Hotmail ...)
    B1: ex2010 to ex2010
    B2: ex2010 to ex2007
B3: ex2010 to external (eg gmail, yahoo, Hotmail ...)

    >>>How is your Receive connector and Accepted Domain configure especially if cross-forest
Receive on ex2007: only from smarthost ?
accepted domain ex2007: domain.com ? , authoritative, internal relay, external relay?
accepted domain ex2010: any? authoritative, internal relay, external relay?
    receive connector ex2010: any?

kindly feedback and we might have a better understanding of how to assist

  • Ex2007 and Ex2010 have HUB, CAS, Mailbox roles installed. They are in the same site.

Ex2007 is directly connected to smarthost. Ex2010 is not set up on smarthost yet, so it's not connected to exteral network. Ex2007 & ex2010 share same orgnisation name and AD namespace.

Hii,, i have the same scenario with same issue,, i can send from exch 2007 to exch 2010,, mailbox on exch 2010 can receive,,, but when sending from exch 2010 to exch 2007,, it stays in queue,, if i cancel with NDR, the error i receive is

Could you please help me in solving this problem... right now it is Lab environment, not connected to the internet...

  • Make sure you do not have added the ip of 2010 in any of the 2007 connectors.

And also enable logging on 2007 default connector assuming there are no other connectors listening on port 25.

    And post the log.

  • Can you ping each other by DNS name?

    Can you Telnet?

Make sure 2007 ip address & 2010 ip address are not listed in any other receive connectors or in the ip range of the receive connectors.

And also please check receive connector on Ex2007 server:

    Authentication: Exchange Server authentication

    Permission Groups: Exchange servers

    hope this will help you.
