Not able to login to administrator in windows 2008 server

Hi,
we have noticed a strange thing in our domain controller which is server 2008 R2. we were not able to login into our server from administrator account with correct password. we have created few more accounts with the administrative rights but we were not able to login from these accounts too.
finally we decided to restart our server and we were again facing the same issue, we tried to login from different account with administrative rights and we were able to login. we reseted the password of administrator and we were able to login. could you please help me in understanding what had happen. Thanks in advance.
