TMG 2010 SP1 Long Startup Time! Hung Service. Looks Like A Bug!

Hi There,
I have found that TMG 2010 SP1 is taking a long while to startup now. This never used to happen. There were two main changes made to the TMG 2010 over the last few months.
1. Change to use SQL Server Express Database on the local server. It was using file based before.
2. Installation of SP1Now restarts are taking ~ 7 to 8 minutes and errors are being show in the Event Viewer:
The Microsoft Forefront TMG Managed Control service hung on starting.
Any ideas why this might be happenning?
I also backup our configuration every now and then and I have noticed that since one of these changes the file change has doubled. Configuration used to be ~ 7mb XML and its not 16mb XML.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Ok so I have done some testing. I basically built a fresh TMG 2010 server. This was installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 X64.
After the install things seemed to work very well. I didn't setup any rules and left it as is.I then decided to install SP1. Rebooted and I get the same problem as we are experiencing on our production TMG 2010 SP1 server.
The Microsoft Forefront TMG Managed Control process just hangs and takes ~ 7 minutes to start.
This is not even with any configuration ... Just the base.
The server reboots fine and I can log into Windows fine, its just the control process takes forever!
Looks like a bug and issue. Can someone confirm please?
Cheers

Hi,
I didnt found any case with this symptom after installing SP1. Few questions:
Is it a physical or virtual server?
Have we installed all the windows updates?
If its a virtual server , is it on hyper v or something else?
Try changing Microsoft Forefront TMG Managed Control service to Delayed Start and see how it goes.
Thanks,
Junaid

Our production server is a physical server and the test server I used earlier is a virtual server on a Hyper-V Core. Both servers have the latest Windows Updates as well as the Hyper-V Core.Have tried Delayed Start and that hasn't made any difference.

@Jiritech
I saw long boot time and hung services on the first reboot after upgrading a UAG server. Following reboots did not show this behaviour.

If you are experiencing the same problem you can open a support case with Microsoft and since it is a bug it will not be charged. Here it is the support link to open a case (choose TMG and follow the wizard):

Hi Phillip,This was an unofficial hotfix which I have to install onto my TMG 2010 SP1 servers. The fix is being rolled into an Update which is coming for TMG 2010 SP1 soon.

Since this thread was fixed with a hotfix, your problem might be different. I recommend you create a new thread and provide more details about the scenario and error message.
Thanks,
