Answered size of inventory information sent to server

I know all hard drives are different sizes and the amount of software installed on each differs but what is a typical size of a .mif file that is sent up to the MP for a full inventory?   10k, 100k, 2MB etc?    Also, is there a way to capture these files?  I know they pop into Inbox folders and then disappear.  If you were to inventory 1 machine how can you capture the .mif file to example it and see it's size?  Its hard to monitor the inbox since they go in/out so quickly.

By default, the maximum size set in ConfigMgr is 250KB -- anything above that will be rejected. There are cases where it does get rejected (like RD\Citrix) servers, but for most systems this is sufficient.

Yes, you can view the incoming hardware inventories by going  the inboxes\dataldr.box. As they get processed, the files are deleted though. You can watch the dataldr.log file for processing details.

You can capture the local file on a client :  http://www.myitforum.com/myitwiki/SCCMINV.ashx#9, under sources, look at the RickyM / Russ Slaten one, for how to make a client keep the file locally and not delete it after sending it to the MP.

One quick correction, its 5MB not 250KB for the maximum mif file size.
