Help migrating from SP1 /hosting to SP2 on-premises

Hi,
Right now I have an Exchange 2010 environment installed with the /hosting flag with SP1.
I have 2 AD servers, 2 Mailbox servers in a DAG and 2 CAS servers in a CAS Array.
What are there to think abot when migrating to SP2 on-premises? We have around 60 accounts on there right now and we need to migrate to get the Address Book Policy feature.
How much downtime should I expect? Do I have to setup new servers and migrate to them or can I migrate using the existing servers?
Has anyone done this yet?
Also, I'm wondering if people will still have access to /ECP so they can manage their own users or are there stuff that will be different?
Any help regarding this matter is much appreciated!
Thanks,
-Patric

You could try the official documentation :)

Thanks!
I've read that and found out that I wont be able to give each organization' administrator access to /ecp so they can administer their users etc.
Neither are there any serviceplans involved. This is my first Exchange setup and I haven't been working with Exchange prior to this so how does one set a mailbox quota per user?
Am I required to use a control panel from a third-party to be able to do this now?
In the whitepaper you linked it says that I should ask my control panel provider for help with some stuff like creating reseller OU etc.
Is this something I need to do now when migrating? For example, right now I don't have a controlpanel and I migrate to SP2 on-premises without any controlpanel in mind, can't I get a controlpanel later without having to redo my whole forest again?
Also, what are your (everyone on this forum) recommendation? Should I migrate or should I keep going with /hosting?
We have a fully functioning /hosting environment with a lot of customers and more are coming, around 200 mailbox-users in the coming months.
Everything works fine except one thing, I want the Address Book Policy feature but I might be able to manage without if there are other workarounds.
I have 3 companies in 3 different organizations today, the thing is that I need to be able to merge their address book (just those 3) somehow so they can see everyone in all 3 organizations. Is this possible in /hosting or do I need to migrate to on-premises?

Hi PatricF,
Yes the recommended approach when migrating from the /hosting version to the Enterprise version with SP2 and ABP's is to have your own control panel or get one from a third party.
There's also other options like migrating to another hoster and becoming a Reseller with the % cut, but for the purposes of the official migration documentation above, it's make your own panel or (preferred) buy one from a third party.

Thanks!
Is there some controlpanel specific stuff I need to think about when migrating? Like for example if I choose to go with MachSol's panel I'm stuck using that panel because of specific changes in the AD or something like that?
Or the panel doesn't need to modify the forest at all? Because I read in the white-paper somewhere that I should ask my control panel supplier about some stuff, but it might have been something else.

Hi,
The best thing to do is to speak to each individual control panel provider. They will all have their own frameworks for hosting post HMC and /hosting.
I work for a hoster and am familiar with many panels and there are none that I know of that modify the schema or make specific changes to the AD that would make it incompatible or detrimental to moving to another providers framework.
Most use the good old HMC way of carving up tenants into their respective OU's and then using Powershell to create the objects or set the relevant attributes.
It's also worth asking any panel provider if they offer a migration tool to go from vanilla /hosting to Enterprise with SP2 and ABPs which would help you greatly.
