550 550 5.7.1 Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list (state 14)

Folks,
I run SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007. I'm getting a complaint from one outside person (using gmail.com) trying to send email to one of our employees. Apparently sometimes the emails go through and sometimes he gets the bounce message below. I looked to see if I was on any block lists and couldn't find any. Any ideas how I can fix this?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi kywildcatfanone,
From this error information, I suggest you check the anti-spam filtering feature for your Exchange Server.
Since I don’t know what anti-spam and antivirus functionality you have enabled on Exchange Server, follow this document to check for Anti-Spam and Antivirus Filters:

Evan,
Thank you for your reply. I'm not using an edge server just the hub transport, if that matters at all, I didn't say that in my original note. I will look at the links you provided and see if I can tweak things a bit to get this one sender to work reliably.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike
As Suggested by Evan please check your Exchange server it has Anti-Spam functionality Enable or not, If not you can enable the Anti-Spam on your Hub-Transport Server and Configure it,
You can view your Domain blacklisted or not from this site
http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
I would suggest you to have a good Anti-Spam for your Exchange Server.
Thanks

Evan,
Yes, here is an update. I did have the anti-spam feature turned on and in use. I had the spamhaus and spamcop services as RBLs to use. I was only having issues with the one email address, so I don't know what I can really do to prevent it, and only some of the emails from that one client are being trapped. I did set up a custom message on both so if we find that they are getting refused at least I can see which services is preventing it.
Should I add or change to other RBL's to use?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
After you check the settings, did you get any clue why these emails been blocked?
Since only some emails being trapped, do you try to trace when these emails being trapped?
I don't think you need to change RBLs only for one user, just try to trace when these emails being trapped, then we can norrow down to troubleshoot the issue.

Hi Evan,
Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me how to try to trace these messages in the future, I'm not sure how to do that?
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
Maybe you can enable protocol logging on your receive connectors, then check whether the trapped messages be received by Exchange Server or not?
Configure Protocol Logging
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124531.aspx
When you check the RBLs, did you get any related information?
Thanks,

Evan,
OK, I have turned on the protocol logging and we will see what happens. I've had no other complaints than the one.
When I checked the RBL via mxtoolbox, it came back OK for all RBL and one timeout. I think that means it's all OK as best I can tell.
Thanks
Mike
