martedì 20 marzo 2012 17:01Exchange2010 sp2 server coexistence with Exchange 2007 sp2. Email send from exchange2007 to exchange2010 is ok, but exchange2010 cannot send email back to exchange2007. Is there something missing in the setup? Thank you.

Are both servers in the same org/forest?
What does message tracking show?
What about the SMTP protocol logs? If logging isn't enabled, enable it and retry.

Refer to Jason Sherry request
Also, do you have white/black listing product running on Exch 2007 such as SendIO
we had a similar scenario with a client recently and the SendIO was the reason why mail from Exch 2010 doesnt get delivered back and through to Exch 2007
How is your Send connector, Receive connector and Accepted Domain configure especially if cross-forest
Remember Exch 2010 need an Exch 2010 HUB to deliver mail to 2010 mailbox and vice versa

These two servers are in the same org/forest.
How to get intra organization log? enable intra-organization send connector logging?

There is no white/black listing on ex2007.
There is a Send connector on Ex2010 which is the same one on Ex2007. This send connector send email through smart host-McAfee email filter.
Two Receive Connectors-Client and Default with default settings.
Accepted Domain: domain.com - Authoritative
Thank you.

Hi,
Are these Exchange Servers in the same AD site?
You can use get-exchange |fl name, site to check it.
Did you implement MACfee between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007?
Please try to clarify the mail flow of your organization.
Exchange 2007-Exchange 2010-Smarthost-internet?
Please use get-sendconnector |fl and then post the result here.
Besides, I recommend you to remove the send connector and then check the issue again.

Mail flow: ex2010-ex2007-McAfee-Internet. Tried to change mail flow from ex2007-ex2010-Mcafee-Interne, then found out ex2010 couldn't send email to ex2007.

Thank you.

According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998662.aspx "implicit and invisible Send connectors that are automatically computed based on the Active Directory site topology are used to route messages internally between Hub Transport servers." "Send connectors that are created on Hub Transport servers are stored in Active Directory and are available to all Hub Transport servers in the organization".
I thought I don't need to create a send connector to route internal emails.
I disabled IPv6, add ex2007 in hosts file on ex2010.
May be there is something wrong with the server setup? Thank you.

Make sure you do not have added the ip of 2010 in any of the 2007 connectors.
And also enable logging on 2007 default connector assuming there are no other connectors listening on port 25.
And post the log.

Can you ping each other by DNS name?
Can you Telnet?
Make sure 2007 ip address & 2010 ip address are not listed in any other receive connectors or in the ip range of the receive connectors.
And also please check receive connector on Ex2007 server:
Authentication: Exchange Server authentication
Permission Groups: Exchange servers
hope this will help you.
