    Server crash, had to reload everything. Running the ShrePoint product and Technology wizard and I get the following error:

    Failed to initiate the upgrade sequence.
Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies.  Further information regarding this failure can be found at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS\Upgrade.log.
An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException was thrown.  Additional exception information: The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before attempting to access this object.

    How many servers are you having in the farm? Have you applied a CU or a Service Pack?

    From your error message it seems that you have applied a CU or a Service Pack and you have executed the complete configuration wizard on one server. Now when you try to execute it on other servers it crashes.

    You need to you need to respect this installation order (central admin, index, wfe)

    This example is for SP2 installation, the same principle can be applied for CU

    1. WSS farm.

    Install WSS SP2 binaries on all the SharePoint servers

    Start configuration wizard on central admin server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Start configuration wizard on index server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Start configuration wizard on WFE server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Return on central admin server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

    Return on index server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

    Return on WFE server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

     

    2. MOSS farm.

    Install WSS SP2 binaries on all the SharePoint servers

    Install MOSS SP2 binaries on all the SharePoint servers

    Start configuration wizard on central admin server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Start configuration wizard on index server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Start configuration wizard on WFE server until the pop-up window appears. Do not click on OK.

    Return on central admin server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

    Return on index server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

    Return on WFE server and click on OK and finish configuration wizard

    Hi,

    Have you installed any lower version of sharepoint and running wizard?

    The backward compatibility is not supported. If you have backup of 12 hive then restore it and execute the wizard.

    If you are installing the higher version then you have to execute this wizard one by one in the sequence starting with the server holding your central admin, index, WFE

    Hi,

    According to the error message you mentioned, the issue is that your MOSS server’s version is lower than the SPConfigurationDatabase’s version. For example, you have upgraded the SPConfigurationDatabase to April 2010 CU, while the version of application is SP2 version.

    Please follow the steps in the previous posts to upgrade the SharePoint application to the same version as your ConfigurationDatabase, then run PSConfig wizard.
