- It is a a broader question. It again depends on your source for getting weather, news, stock or sports events. If your source data for these content is exposed as you RSS feeds, you can leverage out-of-box RSS viewer web part and do some styling around it. For certain other content sources, you can also think of rendering it in your portal using IFrame or PageViewerWebPart.
If your requirement is bit different you can also think of building a custom web part (or) leveraging the content query web part.
Please elaborate more about your content sources.

- Allan,
If you have choice of using third party solution you can have a look into the below links
World clock and weather webpart (http://store.bamboosolutions.com/ps-55-5-world-clock-and-weather-web-part.aspx )
Sharepoint stock ticker webpart (http://svstockticker.codeplex.com/ )
I agree with Sundar Narasiman in showing news using RSS viewer webpart

- The community kit for sharepoint up on codeplex has a FREE world clock and weather webparts (http://www.codeplex.com/CKS/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=7649)
Community Kit for SharePoint tends to have pretty solid/well developed webparts/features.
